I have an obsession for red lip products.. I think red lipstick is the sexiest thing a woman can wear, aside from heels :) So, I wanted to show you my top 10 red lip products; lipsticks, stains, glosses...... With an additional 5 honorable mentions, because I couldn't help including more than 10 LOL
Side note: I ordered Riri Woo and it will be coming tomorrow, so although this is a drugstore post... I think it's safe to say, that pretty girl will be my new favorite come tomorrow :)
** These lip swatches are messy, I slapped them on quickly so there is feathering and whatnot - just remember it's to show you an idea of the color :)
This is very picture heavy!!
Okay, so I'll start with my favorite red lip liner.......
Jordana's Easy Liner in Sedona Red ($1.99) - I did a review on these lip liners-> Here!
I love this liner for under reds, but it is also gorgeous worn alone. I won't go too deep into this since I already did that review, so check that out if you want to know more about these!
ELF Matte Lip Color in Rich Red ($3)
This is a beautiful cherry red. These lip colors are like jumbo lip liners, and very easy to apply. Creamy and smooth, not drying at all. I love that these give off a little shine so you can wear them alone, or also as a lip liner. These are great to just throw in your purse - although with this one, you definitely need a mirror to apply. Some of the lighter shades of these lip colors can just be quickly thrown on without much concentration though :)
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Romantic ($8.99 - $7.48)
This one isn't the best swatch, my lips were stained underneath from other lip swatches lol but, you get an idea of the color... It's a pretty tomato red. If you are hesitant about wearing a red lip, try this out. You can apply this really lightly or build it up for more color - you won't get a super pigmented red like these lipsticks I'll show.. These are very easy to apply, have a nice minty smell and are perfect to throw in your purse. I love stains for the summer, and it's not easy to find a low maintenance red lip color.
Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids in On Fire Red ($8.79 - $5.50)
The Vivids are some of the most pigmented and creamy lipsticks you'll find at the drugstore. On Fire Red is a gorgeous cherry red, I recommend wearing a lip liner - it is SO creamy, but because of that - it does feather out from the lip line.. It has a gloss to it, and doesn't dry out the lips at all. You feel like you're wearing a gloss or chapstick over these lipsticks.
Maybelline Color Sensational in Red Revival ($8.79 - $5.50)
Red Revival is a deeper red, it looks slightly deeper in person. Such a gorgeous color! I've heard this is one of the red's Taylor Swift wears. This is from the original Color Sensational line, it's very creamy, smooth and easy to apply. Similar to the Vivids in formula, a slight gloss to it and non-drying.
Rimmel London By Kate Moss in 111 Kiss Of Life ($4.99)
Rimmel lipsticks are some of my favorites, these ones in the red tubes are matte and amazing! This is such a gorgeous tomato red, it is glossy at first but dries matte, not drying but definitely wear a chapstick underneath because any matte lipsticks can accentuate any fine lines.
NYX Matte lipstick in Perfect Red ($5.99)
I really love NYX's matte lipstick line, and this is pretty true to name - a perfect red. Totally matte, but you can get a bit of shine like above if you wear it over a lip balm. This does stain your lips, but that just adds to the great lasting power. I find that if I'm wearing this for long periods of time, it can be slightly drying so I just make sure to keep a gloss or lip balm with me.
Milani Color Statement in Red Label ($5.49) - I did a review on these lipsticks-> Here!
I love these lipsticks! And I love how pigmented, creamy and smooth this is. These are so easy to apply, not drying in the least and are definitely some of my favorites from the drugstore. Check out my review on these for more details.
Rimmel London Show Off Lip Lacquer in Big Bang ($4.99)
The name for these are only on the sticker, no where on the tube - so you may want to keep it on.
I'm a little torn on the formula of these. I was expecting more of a stain, but they are definitely liquid lipsticks. Super creamy, but I find it hard to keep it neat looking.. Maybe a lip liner would help, but I'm not sure. This is a more recent purchase but I LOVE the color, and it stays glossy. The pigmentation is really impressive as well.
Sephora Cream Lip Stain in 01 Always Red ($12)
Another recent purchase, the most expensive out of all the ones above... I. LOVE. THIS!.. I imagine this would be what the Lime Crime Velveteens feel & look like. It's applied super thick and creamy, then quickly dries totally matte and it looks almost velvet on the lips. It definitely accentuates fine lines, but the color is just perfection. The lasting power is great, I have to remove it with makeup remover at the end of the day. It will fade throughout the day of course, it doesn't stay this vibrant but it definitely leaves a stain all day. I like to line my lips with a lip liner afterwards just to make sure I get a crisp and clean line.
From left to right: Jordana's Sedona Red, ELF's Rich Red, Revlon's Romantic, Maybelline's On Fire Red then Red Revival, Rimmel's Kiss Of Life, NYX's Perfect Red, Milani's Red Label, Rimmel's Big Bang, and Sephora's Always Red.
Now for the honorable mentions :)
NYX's lip liner in Hot Red ($3.49)
NYX has great lip liners, any color you could want. Hot Red is an honorable mention because as you can see above, it's slightly patchy - these liners are a bit more dry than the Jordana ones, for example. But they are perfect for under lipsticks.
Revlon Colorburst Lip Gloss in Fire ($7.49)
This is the most pigmented lipgloss I own. It sheers out a tiny bit on the lips, but you'll see on the hand swatch below, it almost looks like a liquid lipstick it's so pigmented. I love this whole line of glosses, they aren't sticky but have pretty good staying power (for a gloss) and I love that this one is so opaque and has no shimmer.
Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in True Red ($6.48)
The Colorburst lipstick line is great, True Red is a beautiful cherry red. Slightly more sheer than the other reds I've mentioned, it doesn't quite have the lasting power as the others but it's super creamy. I like this to wear on days that I don't want such a high maintenance red lip because you can wear it sheer, or build it up.
Physician's Formula Sexy Booster Sexy Glow Glossy Stain in Red - seriously, with these names?! ($9.95)
This is one that is a beautiful color, but the product is so odd that I can't call it a favorite.. It's definitely like a liquid lipstick, I would not call it a stain. It doesn't dry, it stays sort of wet and glossy. I have a love/hate relationship with this, but it's such a pretty color that I wanted to mention it.
Wet N Wild Megalast in 911D Stoplight Red ($1.99)
This is an honorable mention because I love this color, but these lipsticks are so drying. Every shade is beautiful, and insanely pigmented but they are the most drying matte lipsticks I own. You have to wear a lip balm underneath, and definitely reapply throughout the day to prevent your lips from feeling dry. In the lip swatch, it looks very glossy because I have a thick balm underneath but these do dry matte. Stoplight Red is a perfect red, I've heard it's a dupe for Russian Red by Mac (only the color, not the finish - but no clue if that's true).. For only $1.99, you can't lose on purchasing this, it's beautiful but doesn't quite make the top 10 cut, only because of how drying it is.
Top row left to right: NYX Hot Red, Revlon's Fire gloss, Revlon's True Red.
Bottom left to right: Physician's Formula Red & Wet N Wild's Stoplight Red.
So there's my top 10 and then some :) Let me know your favorite drugstore reds in the comments!
