"Beauty is about perception, not about makeup. I think the beginning of all beauty is knowing and liking oneself. You can't put on makeup, or dress yourself, or do your hair with any sort of fun or joy if you're doing it from a position of correction."
- Kevyn Aucoin
I'm here today with a review on a shade from the Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede lipstick line! This is my first time trying one of these lipsticks and I know many people have been curious about these (as was I) :)
On the Revlon website:
"Is your lipstick giving you both moisture and wear? This velvety soft formula with moisturizing shea butter and aloe is food proof and doesn't quit. 20 shades. Apply once and go.
- Instant moisture
- All-day color
- Shea butter, aloe
- Soft suede finish
- Available in 20 shades"
These cost around $7.49 to $10 (Walmart & Target always have the lowest price)
I'll start with the packaging and swatches, then let you guys know how I feel about this....
This is after it was first applied.. It goes on very smooth; it feels almost like a thinner lip butter consistency (if that makes sense).. Definitely not a lipstick feel, it's much lighter initially.... Key word: initially.
Here is after 5 minutes.... It dries to.... A sticky... Uneven... Matte?... I don't know. This is a pretty bizarre product in my opinion. The color is pretty but I cannot wear this alone. It's very sticky and tacky feeling once it dries, which is disappointing because when you first apply it, it feels really nice, lightweight and soft... The texture is just so uncomfortable to me... And that surprised me because I'm usually not phased by sticky lip products.. But this one really irks me. Also, because of the stickiness, I find that it REALLY accentuates my fine lines and more product clings to patches more than others (even when I exfoliate really well before applying).
Also, the claims that this lasts? All day color? Food proof? Ha. C'mon Revlon..... No. It gets patchy on my lips and wears down just from drinking a cup of coffee... And I have a big pet peeve with lipsticks that don't fade evenly.. You see the very bottom of my lip? There is more product there, you get almost a ring around the outer parts of your lips after an hour or so, and it only gets worse as time goes on.
Here is after only 2 hours, and a cup of coffee.. I'm not sure how well you can tell from here, but the color is worn down totally on the insides of my lips.. Just that awkward outer rim of product is left over.
I wish I liked this more.. But it was definitely a fail for me. The more I wear it throughout the day, the more I want to take it off. It's so hard to describe the feeling this gives after a few hours of wear but I just do not like it. If I wear a gloss over top, it's manageable but worn alone? Nope. This is not a lip product for me :(
