Best Of Beauty 2013:

"Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending."

- Carl Bard

Hello beauties! Happy 2014!! I can't believe how quickly the year went. I hope you had a great New Years and I hope you'll have an amazing year :)

Here it is, the best of beauty for the entire year of 2013! This post will only be makeup because it's already going to be pretty long. If you want to see other favorites, just let me know!

Grab a snack because this is gonna be a long one :-D

*** There will be a link of any product I have previously done a review on - just click the name if it's blue!

We'll start with primers first!

High End Primers: heprimerBenefit's Porefessional ($30) - I use this in conjunction with Tarte's primer. I love to apply this first, pat it into my pores and focus it on my t-zone. I don't like this as a primer on it's own, I don't think that it really prolongs makeup any longer but it's great for filling in larger pores.. It gives you a nice base to start with.

Tarte's Clean Slate Poreless primer ($30) - This is a great primer! Silicone based, very smooth and soft. It almost melts into your skin and even helps to blur some imperfections a little bit. Keeps my foundation looking great even hours after I applied it.

*Since these are so expensive I typically only use these on special occasions or on days where I'm going to be out for a long time.

Urban Decay's Primer Potion (this is a sample size, regular size is $20)  - Super raved about for years, definitely helps eyeshadow last longer and also prevents creasing. I have so many samples of this that I haven't had ever to purchase!

-

Drugstore Primers:

dsprimerE.L.F's Mineral Infused Face Primer ($6) - A silicone based primer, this makes my makeup last all day - just as well as high end primers. I love this! I'm not a huge fan of the packaging, it's very bulky but who cares if it works, right? :)

E.L.F's Eyelid Primer ($1) - This primer is just as good as Urban Decays. Yes. For $1!! I ALWAYS have this in my collection and I grab for it more than any other eyeshadow primer.

-

Foundation:

foundationCovergirl's Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation ($8-13)Revlon Colorstay ($10-13) - I use these together, every single day that I wear makeup. They are a dream together! Both are medium to full coverage, totally buildable. Super long-wearing and matte finishes. Obsessed.

Check out my full coverage foundation routine to see how amazing these are!

-

Concealers:

For dark spots & blemishes:

concealer1Sonia Kashuk's Hidden Agenda Concealer palette ($10.49) - I absolutely love this concealer! You get one lighter and one darker shade, as well as a green toned shade for concealing red spots and a setting powder (that is the bottom right corner, it shattered).. I mainly use the lightest shade (as you can probably tell - time for a new one!). It's a thick concealer that covers blemishes very well. I wouldn't really recommend this for under the eyes, it's so thick that it usually creases for me so I use this strictly for blemishes & dark spots around my face.

Physician's Formula Conceal Rx  ($9-10) - I use this concealer under my foundation, check out my full coverage foundation routine for how I apply it. It's covers really well and has been a godsend on my bad skin days! I also use this as an eyelid primer some days, it's great for covering any discoloration or veins on your lids!

For under my eyes:

primer2Covergirl & Olay Concealer Balm in fair ($6.10) - This is a very smooth concealer with great coverage. It's not oily feeling like most concealer sticks. It also has a slight pink-undertone which helps brighten under the eyes.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer in Brightener ($7-9) - A cult favorite, this is a concealer with a sponge tip. Not too thick but just enough to conceal as well as brighten. The lasting power isn't as great as I'd like it to be but it's still an amazing concealer nonetheless. I typically apply this in that upside-down triangle under my eyes, over the balm stick for an added pop of brightness.

-

Pressed Powder:

powderRimmel's Stay Matte pressed powder in Translucent ($4-5) - I have not used another powder since I found this one. It's just amazing. Sets foundation beautifully, gives a totally matte finish. I have the translucent shade but I even feel like it gives a little extra coverage. You can reapply this throughout the day without it building up and looking cakey. I just love it so much and the price is amazing.

-

Blush:

blush1This was hard to narrow down! I just chose two of the shades that I found myself grabbing for the most.

Wet N Wild Color Icon Blush in Mellow Wine ($2.99) - these blushes are crazy pigmented and the lasting power is great! I love the other shades as well (only 4 in this line) but this one is pretty unique to my collection and definitely one of my favorites. Heather Silk is another gorgeous one!

NYX's Powder blush in Peach ($5.99) - NYX is another brand with amazing blushes. Peach is a perfect pretty pink that gives a nice natural flush to the cheeks. Staying power and pigmentation is great.

blush2Mellow Wine on the left & Peach on the right.

-

Bronzers:

bronzer1

bronzer2NYC's Smooth Skin Bronzing face powder in Sunny ($3) - Another cult classic, this is a great bronzing shade for many skin tones. Totally matte, amazing for an overall wash of color or even for a more natural, every day contour.

Loreal True Match Super-Blendable powder in N8 Cappuccino ($6-10) - This is a face powder, not a bronzer but I love using powders that are for deeper skin tones as a contour. This ensures it will be totally matte and it's so much easier to find a shade that isn't on the orange side. I use this for a dramatic contour and use NYC's bronzer to blend out any harsh lines.

-

Eyebrows:

* I really haven't found an eyebrow product that I totally love.. This one is my most used for the year, but definitely not HG status.

browsNYC's Brush-On Brow Kit in Brunette ($3.99) - this kit comes with a gel on the left side and a shadow on the other, as well as a small angled brush and tiny tweezers. It's a great value for the price, another good one from the drugstore is Milani's eyebrow kit. I use it every day but I know I can find better... Any suggestions?

-

Eyeshadow Base:

shadow baseNYX's Eyeshadow Base in White ($7) - This is basically NYX's jumbo eyeshadow pencil in Milk, just in a jar. It doesn't crease on my lids and makes all my shadows pop. I apply this literally with every makeup look I do.. And there is barely even a dent! It will last you forever.

-

Eyeshadows:

shadow1

shadow2Urban Decay Naked Basics palette ($27) - Hands down my most used palette of the year.. I used at least one shade with pretty much every eyeshadow look. And my go-to favorite look is with this palette. Love, love, love.

shadow3Makeup Geek Eyeshadows ($6 a pan) - These are an honorable mention, I just got them a month ago but I am in love and am planning to get a ton more. Check out my review for swatches!

-

Eyeliners:

linerMaybelline Master Drama By Eye Studio in Midnight Master ($6-9) - This is a super black, very creamy eyeliner. You can apply this to your lid for a dark dramatic liner or smudge it out for a sexy smokey eye; you get just enough time to play with it before it sets and stays. It's also perfect for the tightline & waterline!

Essence Gel Liner in Midnight in Paris ($3.99) - This liner has taken the place of my Maybelline gel liner. It's extremely black, so creamy, smooth and easy to apply. This lasts on my lids all day and does not smudge at all. It's amazing!

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal eyeliners ($4.49) - I have just about every shade in this line (more than just in this photo, these were all I could find at the moment) and will repurchase these time and time again. They are so creamy and pigmented, every single shade is a hit. Amazing for the lid, tightline and waterline. Check out my review for more info and swatches.

-

Mascara:

mascaraThis was another tough one to decide, but these are the ones I grabbed for the most!

** I layer all these together! My regular readers know I'm a total mascara layerer.... Yup, made up a word.

Almay's Get Up & Grow ($6-9) - My holy grail mascara. It's just perfect. It gives me volume and length, more volume than anything else. It's a drier formula so there is never a problem with spidery looking lashes. They look very natural and voluminous and just gorgeous.

Maybelline's Mega Plush Volume Express ($6-9) - This is usually the second mascara I'll apply. It gives great volume, not so much length but that's where the next two come in. This mascara is very black and more of a wet formula so it gets any lash that the Almay one might have missed. On its own, it's also great! On days when I'm in a rush and just need to throw on one, I like this one because it also gives a nice natural look to your lashes and it doesn't flake or smudge.

Maybelline's  The Colossal Volume Express ($6-9) - The next in line of my layering routine! This adds a bit more volume, a bit more length. Another that is amazing on its own, absolutely no problem with flaking or smudging.

Rimmel Lash Accelerator ($8-10) - This is my final touch, I love to press this right into the base of my lashes and then pull up for that final coat of super black mascara and to lengthen my lashes a bit more. This doesn't give much volume and if you apply too much can definitely go spidery on you, which is why I use it as a last step just for a little extra oomph. This is a mascara that I hate when it's first opened. It's just too wet and too messy, I open it and leave it for a couple months and then it's good to go. No flaking or smudging!

-

Last but certainly not least, on to the lips!

Lip Balm:

lips1Nivea's Lip Butter in Vanilla Macadamia Kiss ($3-4) - My go to lip balm, I keep this on my vanity and in my purse, and use it every single day. It's so moisturizing! It's more on the thick side so I love to use this for nighttime before bed as well. Also, every flavor smells amazing but I find this one is the best.

Lip Gloss:

glosses2Revlon Super Lustrous gloss in Peach Petal ($6-9) - Hands down, holy grail, most used ever lip gloss. I love all the shades from this line but Peach Petal is the most perfect nude gloss of life. Unfortunately, these were "repackaged" this year and although many people claim they are the same formula - they are not!!! I hate to show this as my favorite since it's pretty much impossible to find now, but I just had to. It's perfect. On the left is the one I've used all year, it's pink because I love to top it over pink lipsticks. The right is a brand new one.

Because that gloss isn't available, here are glosses that are almost just as good (they are amazing):

glosses1NYX Butter Glosses ($4.99, almost always BOGO 50% off at Ulta) - These are fantastic glosses. The texture is creamy and smooth, not too sticky but just enough so they last a good amount of time on your lips. The pigmentation is fantastic and they smell like candy. NYX just released a bunch of new shades so there are tons to choose from, literally any shade you could want; from nudes all the way to berries and reds! If you haven't tried these yet, go pick at least one up - you'll run for more afterwards. I promise you will love them!

Lip Liner:

linersJordana's Easyliner For Lips ($1.99) - My favorite lip liners ever! These are so pigmented, glide on like a dream and they are so incredibly affordable! They have great shades and I love that they are retractable so you don't have to worry about sharpening them. The tips are small so they never get blunt, always easy to apply! I absolutely love these and use them with every single lipstick I wear. Tawny and Sedona Red are my most used. They are smooth and pigmented enough that you can wear them alone too! Click the link above for a full review and swatches!

Lipsicks:

lippies1This was hard to narrow down so I chose my favorites in each shade!

**Swatches below!

Nude:

Loreal's Fairest Nude ($8-9) - This is a great universal nude! I am super pale and it looks great on me and I've seen people of all skin tones wear this beautifully. I find it really hard to find nudes that look good on me just because I am so pale... Either they make me look dead or they are too dark. This one is perfect. It's more of a browny/pink nude, very pigmented and creamy. These lipsticks do smell like old lady makeup but when the product is this great, I can easily deal :)

Revlon Matte lipstick in Pink Pout ($6.99) - These matte lipsticks are all great but Pink Pout is by far my absolute favorite. It's a cool toned pink that you can wear with just about any makeup look! This has to be my most worn lipstick this year. Although it's matte, my lips never get dry wearing this and it's very smooth and easy to apply. You may want to exfoliate your lips first though because as with most mattes, it can accentuate any fine lines or chapped lips. It's a gorgeous color with a fantastic formulation!

Milani's Color Statement lipstick in Uptown Mauve ($5-6) - Milani's Color Statement lipsticks are probably my favorite formulation from the drugstore. They are insanely pigmented, so soft and creamy, so easy to apply and they last for hours. Uptown Mauve is my absolute favorite color, a must have for fall and winter. It's a stunning berry shade that looks good on literally any and everyone. It lasts forever and doesn't feather out at all. I absolutely adore this shade (and the other shades from this line). Click the review to see Uptown Mauve on my lips!

Mac's Retro Matte in Riri Woo ($18) - My one and only high end lipstick... My regular readers know I am a red lipstick fiend. I have so many red lippies it's not even funny.. But this one? Okay, I have literally swooned over Mac's Ruby Woo for years.... Years. And then when I saw Riri Woo was released and heard the formula was slightly better, but still the same shade, I knew I had to get it. I think it's easy to apply, although many people seem to disagree. It's definitely super matte and more dry when you apply but I kind of find that easier because then it doesn't feather out anywhere or smudge out of the lines like some creamer lipsticks do. Another benefit of lipsticks this matte? It. Lasts. Forever! I only find it drying when I'm wearing it for hours, but even then you can just throw a balm or gloss over top and you're good to go. This shade is by far the most gorgeous red lipstick, ever. Click the link for a review and to see this baby in action :)

Sephora's Cream Lip Stain in Always Red ($12) - A slightly less expensive perfect red. This applies like.... a creamy mousse almost. And dries to an absolutely stunning matte. But almost like a velvet matte. It's hard to explain but if you love red lips, you need this. Grab your keys and go get this NOW! You can see pictures of it in my Top 10 Red Drugstore Lippies post, or here for a bunch of pictures with me wearing it in a FOTD post. The lasting power on this product is out of this world, along with the pigmentation. I will repurchase this over and over again!
