October Favorites 2014:

“I used to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it’s true I’m here, and I’m just as strange as you.”

- Frida Kahlo

Hello lovers! A late favorites this month, I was debating whether or not to post it but after a few of my lovely readers insisted, I figured why the hell not! I've said this before but favorites are some of my absolute favorite posts to read and videos to watch. They are always so different for everyone and I've gotten some holy grail products off of others recommendations. This is a pretty long one this month, I've been skipping quite a few lately because I've been trying so many new products that I had a hard time narrowing down what I knew I absolutely loved. So October was perfect because I found myself using a ton of the same products over and over again.. And many of you will be happy to see most of these are drugstore products!

We'll start with skincare first:

IMG_4882First up is what I use to cleanse my face every night - CeraVe. This is a dermatologist recommended cleanser, there are two formulations; one for normal to oily skin and one for dry skin types. This foams up nicely, removes makeup well and is just overall a really great staple to have. As an esthetician, I am constantly trying new skin care products but this is the one I always go back to, a tried and true product that I know for a fact works for me.

CeraVe can be found in the drugstores for around $8-14.

img_3110I've mentioned Tea Tree Oil in my April Favorites... I use this every morning, diluted with purified water. I've actually begun to use this in replace of using a  cleanser in the morning. I apply the diluted solution to a cotton pad and go over my face a few times to make sure it's totally clean. Everyones skin responds differently to certain oils and for some reason, mine responds really well to Tea Tree. I found that when I would cleanse with any one of my cleansers in the morning, I'd break out more and when I would strictly use this to cleanse my face every morning, my skin would look so much healthier. I follow through with a moisturizer afterwords and it's worked wonders for me for the past year.

Tea Tree Oil can be found online or at local health food stores. I purchased this bottle from the Vitamin Shoppe. There are a few different brands and the prices range from $7-20 depending on the size you purchase.

IMG_4887Next up is what I use to exfoliate every week. Eminence Organics is a skin care line I use at work and is hands down one of the best lines you will find. They are an all natural, all organic line and I honestly can't speak enough about it. The products, the company, the owner and employees are all incredible. This is a line I will gladly spend extra for because from bottom to the top, it's amazing. They plant a tree for every product sold and are now beginning to help bring local farm-grown fruits and vegetables to children's hospitals around the country.

IMG_4888The Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant is a rice powder with lactic and salicylic acids to remove dead skin cells. The strawberry and rhubarb offers antioxidants, chickpea flour tightens pores, oats cleanse and smooth the skin - and more!

This is a powder that you can mix with either water or your cleanser, I prefer to mix it with cleanser. It should give you a gritty texture that really exfoliates so well without being too harsh or damaging to the skin.

Eminence Organics can be found via Amazon or sold in salons/spas that carry these products. Head over to Eminence's website to search for local spas that sell these products.

IMG_4894Last, but not least.... One I really shouldn't recommend, especially after speaking on such a fantastic skincare line as Eminence... I never, ever recommend Clean & Clear to clients because it's just not healthy for your skin. They have many chemicals, preservatives as well as alcohol in their products... But... For some reason, this is another tried & true product for me that just works when nothing else will. This moisturizer has salicylic acid in it, which doesn't often help my skin from breakouts but sometimes... It just does. I've had quite a few breakouts this month due to stress so I went back to this and have been using it a few times a week whenever my skin is looking very agitated. It's a lightweight formula and it sinks into the skin quickly without leaving any greasy residue afterwards. I love using this under my makeup as well as at night before bed. I don't recommend this all the time but using a few times a week helps with my acne from time-to-time so I have to mention it!

Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer is available at the drugstore for around $5-7.

On to the makeup! I have quite a bit this month :)

IMG_4903Okay. Listen.... I know, I know... Everyone always raves about Estee Lauder Double Wear. I know... But let me tell you something... I have legitimately not touched any of my other foundations since I purchased this. I haven't even looked at my other foundations. This is thee perfect foundation. Point blank. The coverage, the lasting power?! Holy grail, I don't even want to try anything else, fanfreakingtastic.

Even the packaging is absolute perfection. Many people complain because there is no pump but it's not a big deal to me. I typically mix my foundations and concealers on the back of my hand first anyways; also,  you can purchase or put a MAC pump on... Sure, it'd be nice if it had one but eh. I can easily look past that with such a fantastic product.

If you have not tried this yet, go try it. Oily, combination, normal... I honestly think this would even be okay for those of you with dry skin. This hasn't clung to any dry patches I've had. I can't rave about this foundation enough, it's truly worth all the amazing reviews it has gotten. And as a bonus, it's absolutely flawless in flash photography so this would be great for special occasion makeup!

Estee Lauder's Double Wear is $37.

IMG_4909Coty's Airspun Loose Face Powder, I won't go into detail with this because I recently posted a review but this is a great drugstore setting powder, check out that post for more details!

-

IMG_4925e.l.f Makeup Mist & Set, I've mentioned this in previous posts and also did a comparison of this to the Urban Decay setting sprays. This is an incredibly affordable setting spray that actually works. I use this every day to set my makeup and I just adore it. The spray nozzle is my only complaint, it sprays way too much product so you have to hold it pretty far from your face. When I ran out of my UD All Nighter Spray, I actually just dumped this into the bottle :)

e.l.f's Mist & Set is $3 online and at Target! Such a deal!

-

IMG_4916Smashbox Full Exposure mascara - I just have the sample size of this but I really love it. It gives nice length and some volume! It doesn't smudge or flake at all, which is a huge plus! I wouldn't say this is a holy grail by any means, but it is nice and I've been reaching for it more than my other mascaras.

Smashbox's Full Exposure Mascara is $20.

-

IMG_4913Sonia Kashuk's Full Volume lashes... I've mentioned SK's lashes before, I absolutely love them! The quality is fantastic and they are the easiest lashes to apply.

I've reused these three times so far and they still look brand new, avoid applying mascara to falsies to keep them looking great! These lashes hold the shape of your eyes after wearing them once or twice so it gets even easier to apply them! There are only a few styles but the two I've tried are absolutely amazing. I hope they release more styles soon!

Sonia Kashuk lashes are around $7-9? I can't find these on the site right now but I remember them being slightly more than Ardell lashes.

-

IMG_4059Another product I've mentioned recently! Can you tell I've been loving on the same goodies lately? Lorac's Unzipped Palette! Check out my review & swatches on this. It became a holy grail overnight!!!

Lorac's UNZIPPED palette is $40.

-

IMG_4930Milani's Color Statement Lip Liners - I love these!! The shades are gorgeous, they are smooth and easy to apply and best of all - long wearing!

IMG_4931The shades I have are from left to right: True Red, Nude and Spice.

Milani's lip liners are $3.99

-

IMG_5104Another lip liner I'm loving, NYX's Slim Lip Pencil in Mauve. It's a rose-mauve with brown undertones, perfect for fall! I love wearing this alone or under Maybelline's Touch Of Spice lipstick. This is one that needs to be sharpened and they are slightly more on the dry side when applying compared to the Milani liners but they are good for the price and there are tons of shades to choose from!

NYX's Slim Lip Pencils are $3.50.

-

IMG_5093Another e.l.f product! I love these Matte Lip Colors!! This shade is Natural, it's looking more peach/coral in the swatch m it's just a nice pale light pink. I don't usually wear this shade alone, it's just too pale for my skin tone but I absolutely love putting this in the center of my lips over darker lip colors to give that fuller look to the lips. I have a few other shades as well and they are all super pigmented, nice and creamy and they don't dry out my lips at all. They feel more like a cream than a matte, for sure. They are a twist up chubby lip pencil but there is a sharpener in the bottom, love that added touch!

The e.l.f Matte Lip Colors are $3.

-

IMG_5098NYX's Round Lipstick in Thalia.. I love these lipsticks in general; creamy, smooth and pigmented. They don't last the longest on the lips, but they are so moisturizing that I don't mind reapplying them whenever needed. Thalia is a beautiful deep pink, also on that rose-mauve side (can you see a trend here? I've been obsessed with that kind of lip lately). It's just a beautiful shade and definitely a pink you can wear in the Fall & Winter without it looking too Summery.

I've noticed that this shade looks much different in other photos I have seen so I'm not sure if maybe mine is a different formulation, older possibly? I'm not sure, but it's something to keep in mind if you're looking for this shade. I don't know whether it's different now or not.

NYX Round Lipsticks are around $3.99.

tarteI picked this set of Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes up about a month or two ago from Ulta, this was a holiday release but now I can't find it on the site so I'm not sure if it's still available :(

IMG_5109The blush I've been using the most from that set, and in general, is the shade Prim.

IMG_5106This shade is SO beautiful!!! It gives a gorgeous, natural flush and glow to the skin. The pigmentation is perfect and as expected with the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes, it lasts forever on the cheeks!

This set was $35 at Ulta and I think this shade was exclusive to it so if you can't find it, I'm so sorry for mentioning it! But I'm hoping it's in another holiday set or maybe it will be released again because I'd love a full size of it!

Next is a face product that I've been obsessed with using as an eyeshadow!

IMG_5112Bare Minerals Warmth is a face powder used for warming up your skin tone. It's a gorgeous warm red-brown and it just wasn't working for me so I had in in my drawer for a year or so before I opened it up and realized that it was that absolutely gorgeous shade I've been wanting to use in my crease! I've been obsessed with warm browns, reds, oranges, etc lately and this looked perfect so I tried it out one night and have been using it like crazy ever since!

IMG_5115It has a slight glow but that doesn't translate too much on the eyes. It just warms the look up and gives you that perfect crease shade for the fall. This in the crease and Maybelline's Touch Of Spice on the lips?! To die for! This is super blendable and it lasts really well on my lids. I've been randomly grabbing other face products and trying them as eyeshadows now since this was such a hit :)

Bare Minerals Warmth is $19.

IMG_5119I've mentioned how much I love Benefit's bronzer in Hoola before and that is still a huge favorite but I've finally found a brush that I really love using to contour with! Real Technique's Expert Face Brush! I've used this brush for applying foundation before and even setting concealer but I took a look at it a few weeks ago and thought... Hmmm... This could be absolutely perfect for contouring! Sure enough, it applies just the right amount of color, it blends it beautifully and it fits right into the contours of the face. It's not too big, not too small.

IMG_5120

IMG_5121Another huge plus to this brush is that its synthetic so it doesn't shed and it dries super quickly after washes. I love RT brushes in general and this one has been used like crazy lately!

This brush is sold separately (hallelujah!) for around $7-9.
