My Weight Loss Tips & Tricks:

Hey beauties!

So this post is different for me, I had initially planned to just do something small on Instagram but I get so many questions about it so I figured I’d make a post out of it! I kept thinking of more and more tips so I hope you guys enjoy this and find it helpful!!

*Let me start by saying I am in no way a professional when it comes to fitness and I am far from a health nut. What works for me may not work for you, but I have found little things that have helped me lose and keep the weight off and I hope it can help you too.

A little background on my health and weight; growing up I went up and down in weight, went through that awkward chubby phase and finally thinned out a lot my Senior year of High School.. I was never obese, I'd say just slightly overweight and... Well, just chubby. My body type... I am naturally very curvy. My hips, thighs and butt are the biggest part of my body (she gets it from her momma! LOL) and I also gain weight in my face quickly. I do get a bit of a stomach but that is usually easy for me to lose, it's more just my lower half that is the most difficult to trim down.

These tips can definitely help anyone but I'd say this is great for those who want to lose a few pounds, or keep off weight they've already been losing.

Aside from the typical, eat healthy, fruits and vegetables. Work out (my routine is at the end).... Yadayada.. These are little things I've picked up along the way that helped me:

Tip #1.... Everything in moderation!:

My absolute biggest tip I can give you is... Do not restrict yourself. I found that whenever I totally swore myself off from something - whether it be junk food, fast food, whatever -  is when I would slip one day and completely binge on whatever it was. The key is just limiting yourself. Eat as healthy as you can throughout the week, but let yourself indulge in that thing you are craving maybe once a week or every other week.. Whether it be a burger, some fries or a candy bar... Enjoy it! Just enjoy it in moderation!

Tip #2..... DRINK WATER!!!!:

This is not only for weight loss/maintenance, but for your overall health as well as the health of your skin! Our bodies are made up of over 50% water! Typically around 75% in adulthood but it decreases as you age... Water is essential to the functions of your body and organs. It helps to remove toxins from your body quickly, aids in digestion and more! Water is so, so important!! I can't stress that enough. Try to drink as much water throughout the day as you can. If you hate the taste, try lemon water! That's so good for you and gives it some flavor as well. Drinking water will keep you feeling more full - if you drink a glass of water before a meal, you will eat less!

Tip #3..... Remove as much pop (or soda for everyone not in Upstate NY lol) from your diet as possible! Yes, diet drinks too!!!:

This goes hand-in-hand with drinking water... Pop is so unhealthy! *Diet drinks as well! Don't let the hype of diet drinks fool you!* They are packed full of sugar, contributes to weight gain like crazy and also dehydrates you! When I first lost all that weight in HS, it was almost solely from removing pop from my diet. I lost close to 20 pounds without exercising, just from cutting that out and replacing it with water. I know it's not easy, and this is where the everything in moderation tip also ties in... Drink it when you're out, at a restaurant or when you are REALLY craving it... But at home? NO! Don't buy it, don't allow it in the house at all!

Tip #4.... Restrict junk foods at home:

If it's in your house, it will be consumed. Chips, pop, candy.... Don't buy it! If it's in your fridge, in the kitchen cabinets, you know you'll find yourself grabbing for it. If it's not near you and not easily accessible, chances are you will find it easier to avoid.

Tip #5.... Don't eat past 9PM:

This is one of the hardest things for me... But eating late at night and right before bed is a huge contributor to weight gain. Try to eat a healthy, filling dinner and have a snack if you get hungry afterwards but try your best to avoid any food after 9. BUT, don't starve yourself! Grab for a healthy snack if need be! I love an apple or banana with peanut butter when I get hungry at night.

Tip #6... Avoid alcohol whenever possible:

Unless socially drinking, or that occasional glass of wine... Try not to drink alcohol. Two words: EMPTY CALORIES!! You will feel so much better, your skin will be so much clearer and you will not hold nearly as much weight! Back when I was in my partying phase, I would just feel so crappy and sluggish all day. Aside from the beer belly, the weight gain from all those calories, it even kept me from wanting to workout or change what I was doing. Socially, fine... But multiple times a week, daily, binge drinking.. All that, NO! Trust me, your body will thank you for it in so many ways!

Tip #7... Stop being so hard on yourself:

Another tough one. Don't compare yourself to anyone else (a good tip for life in general, no?!)... No one's body is the same. We all have different weights, different shapes and all gain/lose differently. Yes, of course there are guidelines that work for many, but your journey will be different from most. When you start comparing yourself to someone else, that is when you begin putting yourself down for not being where that person is. It's hard staying positive when you aren't losing as much as you had hoped, or when you've gained a few pounds. But remember that is normal, everyone has setbacks and that is nothing to feel bad about. Use it as more motivation! We all have bad days, but when you start comparing your journey to someone else's is when you are hindering your progress.

Taking pictures is so helpful! Seeing the changes in your body is so much motivation and it also helps you to see what areas need to be worked on. - Aside from the tips above, I'll explain a bit of my "workout" regiment and fitness wise, what I did to lose weight and also to maintain the shape I have now. As I said, I'm not big into working out. I don't go to a gym, I just work out from home. I'd like to add weights into my routine but for now, this is what I do and have been doing for a few years now.

These are listed in no order. I typically do arms and abs first and then the BUTT! :)

  • Regular Sit-ups
  • Push-Ups
  • Bicycle crunches - these make a huge difference! And HURT!!!! haha

  • Reverse crunches

  • Russian Twist - Another killer but this WORKS!!!!

  • Various Planks - Don't underestimate these! They look easy but the more you're up, the harder it gets and the tightening effect on the ab muscles is incredible!

  • Squats - The single most important workout for that BOOTY!

I've probably forgotten a few so I may add more later! But I basically do each of these for as long as I can. Sometimes I don't even count, I just keep going until it hurts so bad I have to stop... Keep in mind, starting off you won't be able to do many. It takes time, repetition and the more you do it, the longer you'll be able to go.

Again, I'm no expert. This is just things I've thrown together that really work for me. Everyone is different and everyones body reacts differently so experiment, try different techniques and see what your body responds to! These are all basic workouts that will stimulate and work on fattier areas so they are fairly fool-proof!
