Current Favorites - March 2017:

"In life you will realize there is a role for everyone you meet. Some will test you, some will use you, some will love you and some will teach you. But the ones who are truly important are the ones who bring out the best in you. They are the rare amazing people who remind you why it's worth it."

Hey guys! How long has it been since I've done a favorites post?! Forever, it feels like. And surprisingly, I don't have a ton of products to share.

As many of you who follow my Instagram know, I've begun on the path of starting my own business and that has taken up much of my time - and money... So the makeup splurges are quite few and far between as of late. But these products are ones that I've been really loving so I wanted to share them!

If you are interested in more info on what exactly my business is, I plan to write a blog post all about it soon but in short, I will be back to taking clients! I'm renting a room in a salon and will be doing makeup, eyelash extensions and a bit of waxing. I will put a post up with photos as soon as I get the room 100% finished!

On to the favorites!

If you follow my Instagram, you know that I've been quite into bright eyeshadows lately... So of course it's fitting that I mention Sugarpill. They are the powerhouse of BRIGHT eyeshadows!

The swatches from left to right: Buttercupcake, Love +, Flamepoint, Acidberry, Poison Plum, Dollipop, Kitten Parade, and Candycrush.

I wanted to post a close-up of the two shimmer shades because I feel like the crazy bright mattes are what Sugarpill is known for... And the metallics don't get as much love as they probably should. They are SO FREAKING PRETTY! Kitten Parade is absolutely incredible as a lid shade.

I couldn't say enough about Sugarpill's eyeshadows. The pans are huge, they are crazy pigmented and bright. They blend easily, which can be difficult to find in such bright colors. They are just perfect.

Head over to my Instagram to see my latest posts using these eyeshadows!

Next up is Maybelline's Better Skin pressed powder. I've seen a bunch of positive reviews about it so after shattering yet another Rimmel Stay Matte powder (does that happen to anyone else? EVERY SINGLE ONE!)... I thought it was about time to try a new brand.

The mirror is HUGE! I also like that they include a sponge versus a powder puff.... I never use it but hey, it's nice to have just in case.

I can't even really tell you why I love this powder.... It just works. Nicely. My skin looks more flawless after I use this. And who doesn't want that?! It lasts pretty well over foundation. I do need to touch up at my usual times so I can't say that it holds oils any longer than typical but it's a beautiful powder!

I use the shade 10 - Porcelain.

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer..... I won't talk about this much because it's been a favorite of mine for many years but I purchased a new one a month or so ago and fell right back in love with it.

Tarte's Shape Tape is phenomenal and I wanted to include that one as well but I find it very drying under my eyes.... And MAC's concealer has the closest amount of pigmentation but is a bit more hydrating so I've actually been grabbing for it more than my Tarte concealer!

I use the shade NC15.

... It's just one of those oldie but goodies that I will forever love.

Next up is.... Soap brows!!!! Have you tried this yet?!

There are tons of videos using this technique now but I will link the originator - Pixiwoo!

Essentially, you are wetting your spoolie with either water or fix plus and working some soap into the brush and then combing through your brows. Whether before applying product or after, it works both ways. I also love using this on days when I'm not wearing any makeup to get my brows in the shape that I want them. They stay put all day and I love using soap more so than any brow gel!

I know it sounds weird, but give it a try! The soap I use is from Amazon - the trick is finding a soap that is totally clear and doesn't leave a film over your brows. These from Amazon don't and they come in a three pack.

Anastasia's Liquid Lipsticks..... Another favorite I've mentioned before but I just can't get enough of them. I literally want to own every single shade. They are one of my favorite formulas. And I know that liquid lip formulas are so individualized and everyone has preferences but these are wonderful, in my opinion.

They are super pigmented, they don't dry my lips out too much or feel uncomfortable. They wear remarkably well and.... I just love them!

From left to right: Pure Hollywood, Naked, Catnip, Vamp and Requiem.

A little bonus random favorite... My Erin Condren Life Planner. I know... I know. I didn't ever want to get on the planner bandwagon but this planner is so freaking good. It's perfect for what I need!

I will include my referral link here - you will get $10 off your purchase. These are pricey planners but she ALWAYS has deals and coupons so don't ever pay full price! If you'd like a post more dedicated to planning, let me know in the comments below!

I didn't think I would enjoy using a planner this much but my memory is terrible and it has helped me to remember things so much better! The physical act of taking the time to write things down is definitely a game changer for me.

So those are my current favorites! What are some things you are loving?! Let us know in the comments below!

Suva Beauty Hydra Liners - Review & Swatches:

"Have some fire. Be unstoppable. Be a force of nature. Be better than anyone here, and don't give a damn what anyone things."

- Christina Yang, Grey's Anatomy

Hey darlings! I'm finally back with a review and this one has been a long time coming!

Suva Beauty is a newer brand to the industry but man, did it hit HARD! It seemed like they became an overnight sensation on instagram and it's for good reason... They are incredible! From eyeshadows and cream bases to these Hydra Liners, they kick ass.

To test out the Hydra Liners, I only picked up a few shades and after using them for months... I can tell you that I will soon own every single shade... And probably an extra of each shade for my makeup kit!

These are $11 each and come in a few different "finishes" - UV, Chrome and Matte. The UV's are neon BRIGHT! The Chromes are metallics and the mattes... Well, those speak for themselves.

I picked up 5 shades, three UV and two mattes:

They come in clear jars. I love the packaging, it's simple and easy to see which shade you are grabbing.

Sea Nymph is one of my favorites. It's a matte - so gorgeous and pigmented!

Fanny Pack is one of the UV shades. It's a fun bright neon green!

Dance Party is a UV yellow... This one and the next are hard to photograph because they are SO neon! My camera struggled focusing on them.

Acid Trip is a UV orange. It's so bright and gorgeous! I've loved creating looks with this one.

Cherry Bomb is a matte blood red.

Here are the swatches! Aren't they stunning?!!

I will say there is a definite learning curve when it comes to using these. They are unlike most products. You need to add water or a setting spray to activate the product and turn it into liquid liner. It's easy to use too much (or too little) so it just takes some practice. I prefer to use a setting spray or MAC Fix + rather than water because I find that it lasts much longer! They wear all day long and don't smudge. I love them!!!

Here are some photos of looks I've done using these:

Here is a video of each shade swatched!

I highly recommend these liners. They are so beautiful and you can create some amazing creative looks with them! I plan to do some water color looks soon.

Love you guys!

Showing some Etsy love - JazzyGlitter:

Your importance is endless.

Hello my darlings! Today I wanted to bring focus to a store on Etsy that I bumped into (while spending entirely too much time browsing) and fell in love with.

JazzyGlitter is a shop with countless festival gems and glitters of all different varieties from color to shape/size. What really pulled me in was that these were different. Not the typical craft store glitter you find on most websites. I purchased 13 glitters and it took a lot of self control not to pick up the rest!

Midnight - black glitters in a few different sizes with a holographic shine, they pull green, red, yellow, blue - any color - you name it. This glitter is SO much more than a basic black!

Twilight - a pretty multidimensional blue/purple glitter.

Barbie - exactly what you'd picture it to be! A vibrant pink glitter with beautiful iridescence.

Mermaid Mist - One of my favorites, I love the chunkier glitters and this one is SO stunning!! Mainly blue but with an insane iridescence.

Snow angel - a pretty white glitter with purple, red, pink and an almost green shine. This one is super unique!

Sorcery - This shade is insane! It doesn't look like much in the packaging until you start to move it around and see all it has to offer. Gold and blues but then green, turquoise, orange, gold, red... It's crazy beautiful.

Autumn Haze - This is another that doesn't look like much in the jar but it's very pretty. More subtle than the other glitters but nonetheless beautiful.

Cleopatra Gold - a very yellow gold, reflects of orange and red and green. I love this one for smokey eyes or even a basic neutral eye. On the inner corner, it's to die for!

Enchanted Elf - another chunky glitter! A base of green but with turquoise, white and blue hints.

Epiphany - a beautiful coral with pinks and golds.

Heavenly - another fitting name. A clear/white chunky glitter with holographic and iridescence. This would be perfect for a cool, snowy look!

Princess - a purple/pink glitter.

Unicorn Tears - this glitter is.... amazing! Ya'll already know I'm planning a crazy warm orange/red eye with this one!

I love these glitters! Not only are they beautiful and unique but the price is right. Ranging from $3 to $5, you can also purchase sets of multiples! They shipped and arrived quickly despite coming from the UK.

Here are some looks I've done with these glitters so far:

Cleopatra Gold.

Check out JazzyGlitter! They are phenomenal!

Coloured Raine - Matte Lip Paints - Review & Swatches:

"I once had a garden filled with flowers that grew only on dark thoughts but they need constant attention and one day I decided I had better things to do."

- Brian Andreas

Hey all! Liquid lipsticks are one of my favorite makeup products. I wear them 99% of the time that I have makeup on and I almost never wear regular lipstick anymore. I've tried countless formulas from tons of brands and although everyone does have a preference when it comes to them, I'd like to think I have a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn't.

With that being said, I will begin by saying this is a negative review. We all have our preferences so if you enjoy these liquid lipsticks, please do not take offense. I tried these every single way possible and they were terrible each time - for me. Before I get into the formula and why I dislike them so much, let's take a look at each shade...

Coloured Raine is a brand I discovered on Instagram after seeing tons of influencers wearing their liquid lipsticks... Every shade is, without a doubt, beautiful and unique; I swooned over nearly every color so when they had a Black Friday sale, I jumped at the chance to pick some up. I ordered 5 shades:

The left swatches are built up for more opacity while the small right swatch is one swipe of the applicator.

On the website, "Metallic champagne liquid lip paint that dries matte leaving your lips vibrant for hours. Won't budge a bit unless oil based product is used for removal."

I've been searching for a metallic shade like this so it was the first shade I tried on when I received these... First impression, the fragrance is strong-ish and my lips tingled a little - I'm extremely sensitive so right off the bat, I knew I probably wouldn't be able to wear this often. It is the only shade I purchased with a scent.

I applied a very thin layer and after a few minutes, rubbed my lips together to see how it felt and immediately it started flaking off on itself. The entire center of my lips was flaked off and removed. I tried again, waiting until it was fully dry before moving my lips at all and it continued to flake.

Raine Fever:

"Dark amethyst with purple undertones."

This shade is patchy, uncomfortable and wears off quickly.

"Dark rouge with purple undertones."

This shade looks near identical to Raine Fever. On the website they look different. The formula is close to Raine Fever in that it's pretty streaky and wears off quickly but I'd say that this one takes more layering for opaque coverage.

As you can see, they are quite similar and on the lips you can't really tell the difference.

This shade is gorgeous but feels chalky and flakes off in the center within an hour or so of wear.

"Dark chocolate with subtle cherry tones."

This is my most liked shade out of the bunch, however it feels very uncomfortable on the lips and needs some layering for full opacity. It wears off the center of the lips within a few hours whether you eat/drink or not.

Here is a photo of Tootsie after two hours of wear. There is a shine to my lips because I had just started adding vaseline to remove it before I remembered I needed to take a photo. Some of you who follow my snapchat (themakeupaffair) may have seen it while I ranted about how it broke down on my lips super quickly. I was not eating nor drinking, simply taking photos for a makeup look and it was flaking and crumbling off after an hour.

The formula...

Trouble shooting - Trial and error, in an attempt to get a better application and wear.. No balm underneath, adding a balm underneath, lip liner, no lip liner, thin layers, thicker layers - I have tried literally every way possible and they all ended with the same result.

It definitely varies depending on the shade, as does the packaging which was a red flag for me from the beginning. It seems each shade is from a totally different batch!

As I've said, liquid lipsticks are my favorite so I don't think that I'm in any way, shape or form very picky when it comes to formulas. Sure, I have my favorites but I'm not one to be easily put off by texture/dryness, etc.... These are bad. And for $17..... Absolutely not!

My other complaint is the return policy is only 7 days... So by the time you receive them and are able to test them, you no longer have the time to return them for a refund.

I wanted to badly to love these... I'm extremely disappointed!! My only guess is that all the rave reviews on Instagram that introduced me to this line were bloggers and artists who have had these sent to them.

I really, really dislike giving negative reviews but you guys know I will always be totally honest with you. I'll be trying to utilize them as eyeliners or otherwise give them to a friend.

Have you tried these lippies from Coloured Raine? Let us know your opinions in the comments below!

Glowing Skin For Textured/Acne Prone Skin:

"Find what you're afraid of most and go live there."

- Chuck Palahniuk

Hey loves!

Today's focus is a quick how-to on creating a glow to the skin without using highlighters!

We've all seen the dramatically highlighted women on Instagram. Glowing to the Gods. Love it or hate it, a "glow" can be absolutely beautiful and make you look more awake and youthful. But many of us don't want to go that dramatic - and more importantly for this blog post, most of us can't.

Highlighters can accentuate any texture on your skin like crazy and for those of us with texture, acne, and/or fine lines, we don't want ANY of that accentuated.

The trick? ......... Beauty oils!

The oils I use the most often are Boscia's Tsubaki Beauty Oil or just plain Jojoba Oil (more affordable option) but there are hundreds to choose from on the market.

There are three ways I add oils into my makeup routine - During my skincare routine, before applying makeup, mixed in with my foundation as well as after applying all creams/liquids (before any powders).

Mixing with foundation:

I prefer liquid foundations and I always mix it on the back of my hand prior to applying. I find that this warms up the product a bit and helps give you a smooth application. Mix two to three drops of your oil to the foundation before applying.

This gives a luminous glow to the foundation. Dependent on the foundation and oil, it may lessen the coverage slightly so I always like to try different brands to see which mix is my favorite.

Not only does this give you a glow but if you are oily to combination, it may help improve the longevity of your foundation! When you add oil to the skin, it doesn't feel the need to produce as it normally would throughout the day so I typically find that my foundation doesn't break up as quickly as it usually would!

My favorite way to get an added glow is applying the oil over top of my foundation and concealer. This technique doesn't work with every foundation, some do get broken down by the oil and you'll find spaces that almost lift off of your skin but when you find one that works? Ohhhh, it is beautiful!

I apply about two or three drops to my damp Real Technique Sponge (beauty blender, drugstore sponge, whatever you want to use!) and dab the oil into the areas of my face that I want an extra glow.

Using an oil will give your skin a natural looking glow instead of using glittery/shimmer highlighters that will enhance the look of texture on the skin! Truly, I love doing this!

If you are nervous about using oils, check out my previous blog post! Never fear! Oils are your friend. :)

Give it a try and tell me what you think in the comments below!

Oil Cleansing and why you need to do it:

"Commit to loving yourself completely. It's the most radical thing you will do in your lifetime."

- Andrea Gibson

Oil cleansing. Chances are you've heard about it... Oils are huge in the skincare industry right now - and for good reason! They are amazing for preserving and maintaining the health of your skin. Whether you are as dry as a desert, you'd compare your face to an oil slick, or you fall somewhere in-between, oils are your friend. Let me explain why...

For starters, oils preserve your youth! They help to prevent/prolong fine lines/aging and they also protect your skin from free radicals as well as trapping and holding moisture in the deep layers of your skin.

All skin types can benefit from using oils! Dry skin needs as much moisture as possible so oils are usually a no-brainer but my oily skin beauties usually cringe at the thought of putting even MORE oil on their skin.

But listen, hear me out.... Oil attracts oil! The more hydrated and nourished your skin feels, the less it needs to produce oil. That doesn't necessarily mean you will go from an oily skin type to combination skin - skin types are (typically) genetic - however, it can help drastically when your skin is off balance and over-producing oils.

......... Someone count how many times I say oil in this post.

There are so many different kinds of oils now. Cleansing oils, moisturizers, beauty oils, serums... Oh, marketing. Today we'll keep to cleansing oils but if you'd like to hear more about any others, let me know in the comments below!

The main difference in each cleansing oil is the base oil that is used. Each are good for certain skin types/concerns so it's important to know what your skin type is before purchasing!

Essentially, you have good and bad oils. The "good" oil, your cleansing oils, will grab onto the bad oils (sebum, dirt, makeup, etc.) and when you rinse, it will take those bad oils with it. If you are very oily/acne prone, I do recommend doing a double-cleanse and following the oil with your typical cleanser. This will ensure that your skin is 100% clean!

These cleansing oils not only include specific "good" oils but they can also include antioxidants, anti-aging ingredients or acne-fighting ingredients for added benefits.

The best cleansing oils for your skin type:

Dry Skin:

 • Macadamia
 • Avocado
 • Coconut Oil
 • Sweet Almond
 • Argan Oil

Oily Skin:

 • Grapeseed
 • Jojoba
 • Safflower
 • Evening Primrose
 • Hemp Oil

Combination Skin:

 • Coconut
 • Rosehip
 • Almond
 • Apricot
 • Sesame

Sensitive Skin:

 • Grapeseed
 • Calendula
 • Jojoba
 • Sunflower
 • Coconut

How to use:

You'll want to apply your cleansing oil with dry hands, on dry skin. Work it in really well throughout your face, massaging it in and focus on your most congested areas. It removes eye-makeup like a dream! After you are done massaging the oil into your skin, add some water to your hands and this will emulsify and break down the oils on your face. Rinse a few times. If you feel that there is still some oil residue left on your skin, double cleanse with your typical cleanser.

I have very acne-prone combination to oily skin. I have seen a huge difference when incorporating oils into my daily skincare routine. Not only for cleansing but also moisturizing and even in my foundation to give a glow and believe it or not, to make my foundation last longer!

Here are some of my favorite cleansing oils -

Excuse the chips of paint missing from my desk - these Ikea desks don't last for very long!!!

From left to right:

Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Cleansing Oil ($32) - This oil is more on the pricey side but I absolutely love Juice Beauty and this is one product I need to repurchase. It's part of their anti-aging line and is suitable for all skin types. The main ingredients are: Malic Acid, Aloe Leaf Juice, Jojoba Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Sunflower Oil and Borage Oil to name a few.

Dermalogica Precleanse ($10-$40 depending on size) - We use Dermalogica at the beauty school I teach at and I have grown to love and adore Precleanse so much. It removes makeup beautifully and I've seen beautiful changes in our guests skin when they incorporate this into their routine. Ingredients: Borage Seed Oil, Kukui & Apricot Oils, Rice Bran and Vitamin E Oils.

Jojoba Oil (the Vitamin Shoppe brand - $9.99) - A staple in my household, I love Jojoba Oil and mainly use it for topically applying essential oils but this has quickly become a go-to for thoroughly removing my makeup. I love saturating a makeup wipe with Jojoba Oil to take off as much makeup as possible before cleansing with my regular skin care routine.

With all of these oils, you want to make sure to apply with dry hands to a dry face. Massage it in really well for a few minutes and apply water when you are ready to remove the product.

Have you used cleansing oils before? What are some of your favorites? Let us know in the comments below!

Melt Cosmetics - Dark Matter & Rust Eyeshadow Stacks:

"Just don't give up on me, on people, on yourself. I know people fill your holes with disappointments, but there's so much hope left to go around. Please do not throw yourself to the wild and let the wolves hunt you down. You were born a creature to be feared, to be valued, to be loved; not to be thrown away as if your parents raised you to be disposable. Trust me, you weren't brought to this planet to leave empty handed. You were meant to touch, to love, and to fight; to bring walls down, to repair your armor, and build your own castle. Life didn't teach you how to survive just so you can give up when it gets a little harder."

- Ming D. Liu, Stories I'll tell one day #81

Hello my darlings! Today's review is very exciting for me. Melt Cosmetics has been a brand that I've swooned over for a while now but never let myself splurge... After hearing one of my students (Hey Carla!!!) rave about the Dark Matter stack, I knew I had to get it. I've had it for months now and when they released the Rust stack, it was over. Another hole in my heart until I had it in my hands. These palettes - color wise - are so ME! Saying that I love warm, rusty tones would be an understatement. So I figured I'd include both in this review! Grab a drink and snack because it's going to be a long one!! I hope you all enjoy :)

For those of you unfamiliar with Melt Cosmetics, these eyeshadow palettes are magnetic circles that stack together. I absolutely love the packaging and find it so fun and creative. They don't take up a lot of room and easily fit in my vanity drawers so I appreciate that so much.

Another huge plus is that the eyeshadow pans are HUGE! With the Dark Matter stack, you get 3.57g of product total and Rust, 2.96 g... It bums me out a bit that you get less in one but I'm assuming it's because you are getting an extra eyeshadow in the Rust Stack.

Let's start with Dark Matter first:

My reviews on this stack are a bit mixed. You will see the swatch differences between this stack and the Rust shadows... I found that these eyeshadows were more on the dry side. Enigma (the red shade) more than all of the others. With that being said, I still very much love these shadows and find that they are very pigmented and blendable.

This stack comes with 4 eyeshadows - all matte - and retails for $48:

Blurr is the first and lightest shade. It's the perfect transition shade. Think - Makeup Geek's Peach Smoothie - it's very similar to that!

Unseen is the second and is sort of like a step deeper and warmer than Blurr. Unseen is an amazing shade for the crease. I love using this to warm up any eyeshadow looks while bringing a little bit of depth.

Enigma is the next shade and the one that I was the most excited about in this stack. As I've said it feels very dry to the touch and doesn't give that smooth, creamy feel that many loved eyeshadows do. I'm not sure if I just got an off formula or if they are all dry like this - if you own it, please leave a comment below and let me know how yours is! But I still really love this eyeshadow. It takes some building up for full pigment but overall, it's gorgeous.

The last eyeshadow is Dark Matter, a deep black. It's also a little dry but beautiful and very pigmented.

You'll see a big difference between these swatches and the Rust stack. I think the dryness comes through on these swatches. They are good but I do wish they were smooth and creamier.

Alright, the star of the show is the Rust Stack. Truly. This became my favorite eyeshadow palette within the first use. It is absolute perfection. From shades to formula, pigmentation to blend-ability. It. Is. Perfect!!!!

This stack comes with 5 eyeshadows - all matte - and retails for $58.

The first eyeshadow is Classic. A warm-ish yellow. I love using this as a base, to set my eyeshadow primer/base, and as a highlight shade. I usually prefer shimmer highlight shades for my inner corner and brow bone, even for the lid, but this gives a subtle highlight and it's really nice.

Next is Antique, a beautiful peach. Amazing for a transition shade!!!

Rubbish... This shade may scare some, it's a mustardy brown. I'm obsessed! It reminds me so much of Bobbi Brown's Camel, another one of my favorites. I love those weird yellow/brown/dirty-ish looking eyeshadows!

Rust is the next shade and when I first got this, I thought that Rubbish would be my favorite but the second I applied this to my eyes... I think I squealed out loud. If you guys had seen me apply this stack for the first time you would have either thought I was hilarious or crazy.... Maybe both... It's warm and buttery, it blends like a DREAM. I have no words for how beautiful this shade is!!!

The last shade is Rott, a deep brown. It doesn't look like much in the pan but it totally completes this stack! Pigmentation is insane and it also blends super easily.

These eyeshadows are amazing. This is what I was expecting from a Melt Cosmetics stack. Buttery, creamy, pigmented and honestly, this stack made blending easy. You always hear people say that about eyeshadows but this is truly the first eyeshadows that I can say that with. Obsessed isn't a strong enough word for how I feel about this palette. I love it so much.

I love both of these palettes. It easy to see which is my favorite out of the two but I plan to purchase every other Melt stack, that's for sure.

Here are a few makeup looks I've done using Dark Matter and Rust:

Sephora Haul 2016:

“I used to have faith in fate, believed it would some day be us if I played the cards right, or if I tried hard enough to be someone worth searching for.

Then one afternoon, I sat there alone with a pen in my hand and bleakness in my heart, and the thoughts of you stopped providing comfort.

"You weren't elixir, but the plague I tried to avoid,” I said.“

I wish I could speak to myself a few years ago. I’d tell her to stop wishing on every 11:11 for a love so futile, to let go of someone who made her lose sight of her constellations and allowed her to see herself as a city night without stars.

I’d tell her that she was the universe he would never be a part of, and that will be one of the best things she’ll ever have."

- Ming D. Liu, Stories I'll never tell #135

Hello beauties! I placed an order to Sephora a few weeks ago and have been testing out all of the products I purchased so I thought it would be fun to do a haul and include little mini reviews of each.

I'll skip over the Caudalie Beauty Elixir because I've already done a review on that! Check it out here.

Next I picked up the Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic Acid 10% Moisturizer ($45): I've loved this brand for years and have mentioned other products in previous posts.

I was curious to try this because my skin usually reacts well to glycolic acid, and well.... This brand just always pulls me in. I haven't been using it daily because it's pretty strong so I try to use it every other day. I can't say whether I like this or not yet... I'm not sure. I'll need to use it for a few months to really come up with a for sure answer.

The other skincare product I picked up....

Sunday Riley's Power Couple Duo ($85):

I've been absolutely dying to try both of these products from Sunday Riley and when I saw they had both in a nice sized kit, I just had to snag it! It contains the Luna Oil and Good Genes. Both are great sizes for a kit. Luna and Good Genes are 1 oz in the full size and in the kit, both are .5oz.. That may not sound like a lot but these will easily last you a few months! I'm so glad they made them large enough to really get a feel for them. Skincare products need to be used for at least a few months before you can really start to see changes (most of the time) so this is awesome! These both cost $105 for the full size so the price is on point too!

The Luna Oil is for use only at night and I've kept my Good Genes uses to night only as well. Apply Luna first and let that sit for about 5 minutes before applying Good Genes.... Let me tell you, I saw a difference in my skin within the first week of using these. I don't know if they put baby unicorn tears in here or what but I'm obsessed! My skin has been glowing. I've noticed so many more "good skin days" since adding this to my regimen and although they are both extremely expensive, I definitely plan on buying the full size of both.

This kit is an incredible deal!!

I picked up the travel size of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light ($24):

I wasn't sure if this would look good on my skin tone or not so I thought the travel size was a much better option than dropping $50 on something I may dislike. It's .5oz of product and would probably last a very long time - I wish all companies sold travel sizes like this!

They have one other shade in this range and this is the lightest. It has definitely specks of glitter and it's quite warm. It's not a shade you'd want to use for contouring but it gives you quite the bronze. It's so much more pigmented than it seems!

I'm a little too pale for this right now so I'll be saving this for when I get a bit more of a tan. It's beautiful though and adds a natural looking bronzy glow to the skin. It lasts all day and didn't fade after 7 hours of wear.

Lastly, I went a little crazy in the Anastasia section of Sephora.. I already own the liquid lipstick in Pure Hollywood and love it so I was anxious to try a few other shades. I also picked up two of the lip glosses. I want to get the Modern Renaissance palette but it has been sold out so that will be the next purchase hopefully!

I picked up three shades of liquid lipsticks ($20):

From left to right: Naked, Catnip & Vamp.

I absolutely LOVE all three shades. They are super pigmented and long wearing. I'm not very picky when it comes to liquid lipsticks, I love almost every one I try but this formula is one of the best in my opinion.

Naked is a great nude shade for my pale beauties, especially those with yellow/olive undertones who have a hard time finding pale nudes that look "natural" on them. Sorry, the only photo I have wearing this one so far is a crappy Snapchat picture. I love doing a slight ombre with a darker lip liner.

Catnip is a bright, vibrant pink and although I don't wear pink lip colors very often, I grab for this one a lot!

My only complaint with this one, an error in packaging: the sifter is not working properly and way too much product comes out with each application. I could have sent it back for a replacement but I hate doing that so I just try to scrape the product back into the tube before application.

Vamp is hands down one of my favorite lipsticks I own. It pulls very dark on me once it dries completely and looks more brown than red but it's so unique and it's incredible for fall!

Last but not least, the lip glosses! Unfortunately I don't have photos wearing these yet but let me know if you'd like to see them on! ($16):

Undressed is on the left and Gilded on the right.

Undressed is a beautiful peachy nude and Gilded is a gorgeous gold metallic!

These are the most pigmented glosses I've ever used! They are slightly sticky but not too bad and pretty long-wearing for a gloss. I plan to purchase more shades for sure!

So there's my haul! I hope you enjoyed it!

I recently placed an order to Forever 21 for some clothes so if you'd like to see that haul as well, let me know! As always, leave any post requests you'd like to see in the comments below!

Love you all.

Milani Conceal + Perfect Foundation

"You are not a simple work of art. You are the entire museum."

- Ming D. Liu

Hey lovers!

Today’s review is of Milani’s new(ish) Conceal & Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation. They say this has both foundation and concealer in one.

The other claims:

 • Medium to full coverage
 • Lightweight & oil-free
 • Longwearing
 • Water resistant
 • Sweat-proof

I’m using the shade 01 Creamy Vanilla. This shade is the lightest in the range and I can tell you right now that the shade range sucks. I don’t know when these companies will realize that there are SO many more skin tones and undertones in the world. Needless to say, I almost always have to mix foundations and this one is no exception.

Alright so let’s start with the packaging, it’s nice. I like the ombre black to glass packaging and it has a pump so I’m all smiles on that one. You get 1 ounce of product which is pretty typical for liquid foundations.

My other complaint/confusion other than the shade selection is that on the site it says that this shade is for fair skin with cool undertones…. I’m sure you will see in the swatch below that it is VERY yellow…. Which should mean it’s targeted more for warm tones…. So this will definitely confuse most while shopping online for the correct shade. It looks very pink in the photo on the website. So I’m not sure what’s going on there. (I purchased mine at my local CVS.)

This foundation is $9.99 in most stores and varies in price online.

I’ve been absolutely loving this foundation. As I’ve said, I have to mix it with others to get a better match so that’s where things with my review go a little bit sideways.

The foundation itself is on the thicker side of a liquid foundation, it’s not very runny. The coverage is great, I agree with the claims of medium to full. It layers very well so if it doesn’t cover things initially, let that first layer dry and apply more in the areas you need it and it builds up beautifully.

My skin type is normal to combination and with just this foundation by itself, I can wear it for maybe 5 hours before it starts breaking down on my skin and looking not so cute.

However, what I have been doing is mixing it with my Estee Lauder Double Wear for a better match and to improve the longevity and the two together are the dream team! The finish is stunning. Full coverage for sure, ya’ll know I go big or go home when it comes to coverage. I’m not a light coverage person. Either I’m wearing full coverage or I’m going bare-faced.

Flawless foundation routine

My routine for the past two weeks has been mixing this and Double Wear on the back of my hand, letting it warm up a bit and applying with a Real Techniques Sponge (it also applies nicely with a brush). I apply one thin layer, letting it dry. Spritzing my face with the Caudalie Beauty Elixir (see review here), letting that dry and then applying the second layer. I spray my face at the very end of applying all makeup to finish it off and it looks absolutely perfect. I’m obsessed with this combination!

So anyways, I’ve really been enjoying this. I've noticed many more "good" skin days since I have been wearing this. I definitely prefer the mix more so than the foundation on it’s own but either way, I’d say give it a try.

I’m not sure how this would be for dry skin types; I could see it clinging to dry patches considering the formula so maybe try it and keep your receipt to return if it doesn’t work for you. Most stores are fantastic with makeup returns.

If you don’t want something full coverage, it also mixes nicely with oils or moisturizers to thin out the coverage. Moral of the story is…. She plays well with others. Which is a win in my book. I’m the queen of mixing products, I swear. I need to just start my own damn makeup line! :)

Have you tried this foundation yet?! What do you think of it? Let us know in the comments below!

Caudalie Beauty Elixir

"No tree, it is said, can grow to heaven unless its roots reach down to hell."

- Carl Jung

Hey loves! Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir is a product that has been the topic of some conversation lately in the beauty community and after hearing so many good reviews (and some bad), I had to try it for myself.

This is a toning mist made for all skin types - except dry. The claims:

 • Sets makeup
 • Provides an instant boost of radiance
 • Tightens the appearance of pores
 • Solution for: Dullness/uneven texture, pores and dryness

On Sephora’s website,Inspired by Queen Isabelle of Hungary's famous elixir of youth, Beauty Elixir is formulated with grape extracts and clarifying ingredients to provide an immediate burst of radiance. The complexion treatment reduces dullness and is infused with toning rosemary, astringent mint, and soothing rose essential oil to prepare your skin for further treatments.

Beloved by celebrities and makeup artists worldwide, the Beauty Elixir is the ideal priming base and setting spray between layers of makeup for a long-lasting and smooth finish. Perfect as an aftershave for men, the formula contains essential oils and plant extracts to clarify and brighten the complexion. The therapeutic scent is invigorating throughout the day and can be used mid-day at the office for an instant pick-me-up and in the evening to refresh your makeup so that it looks like you had just applied it.”

Man, do they know how to talk up a product! I’m sure you can see now why I was so curious :)

As always, we’ll start with the packaging:

Caudalie Beauty Elixir Review

Beautiful! I love the frosted glass, it has a nice feel to it. Heavy and sturdy.

The mist is absolutely perfect. Not too much, not too little. It doesn't leave splatter of product on your freshly applied makeup, which I am so appreciative of.

One complaint, the scent is strong. More so than I expected and I’ve never been one to be put off by fragrance in products. It’s not terrible, very spa-like but super intense. So if you aren’t a fan of strong scents in your products, this may be one that you want to avoid. Or try it in store to see if you’d like it.

The claims? Some I agree with, others not so much. But let’s talk about the ingredients first because that will tie in with some of my opinion.

 • Water - The most abundant ingredient in this product. Pretty typical for toners like this.
 • Alcohol - Ahhh, why must companies do this! Alcohol on your skin is extremely drying and overall just BAD.
 • Bitter Orange Flower Water - An ingredient commonly used in skincare, soaps, shampoos, etc. Used as a skin-conditioning agent as well as for fragrance. The methanol content can make this irritating to the skin.
 • Fragrance - Another additive that I wish companies would omit. As I’ve said, the fragrance is extremely strong in this product. And fragrance is a known irritant for many skin types.
 • Rosemary Leaf Oil - Antioxidant and antimicrobial. Also used for fragrance.
 • Potassium Alum - An astringent used for tightening or tingling sensation.

These are only some of the ingredients, overall I can’t say that this is a product that would improve your skin over time at all but can provide some of those claims above, but also beware of the alcohol and fragrance that could cause irritation for more sensitive skin types.

My routine, as mentioned in the Milani Conceal & Perfect Foundation review (coming soon!) - I like to apply a thin layer of foundation and let it dry, follow with misting my face with this Elixir and once that dries, applying one more thin layer of foundation for extra coverage where needed. At the end of my makeup, I finalize with another mist of this product.

I’ve been enjoying this. I wasn’t expecting much; I try to go into every review with a clean slate and no expectations, regardless of what reviews I’ve heard. I definitely have been loving my makeup more than I usually do. I agree that it sets makeup well - does it provide any additional longevity? Nah. I wouldn’t say that. But it does leave a beautiful finish and can be used the same way you’d use a Mac Fix+ type product. It tones down any powderiness and gives a more natural glow to the skin. Which leads me to also agree that it gives a boost of radiance. Absolutely.

Does it tighten pores? Nope. I don’t feel or see any tightening whatsoever but I’d say that with just about any product with a claim like that. Most don't.

I also don’t agree to it being a solution for texture… It’s the esthetician in me when I say texture is texture and no makeup product on the planet can tone that down. But it does help with dullness, again due to the radiance it gives.

Overall, I’ve been loving this. Do I think it’s worth the hefty $49 price tag? No. Would I repurchase…..…… Okay, maybe. :)

Have you tried this yet? If so, leave your opinions in the comments below and leave any recommendations for other finishing sprays you love!

Apple Cider Vinegar and why you need to use it.

"I have always wished my body was a forest rather than flesh and bones. I would rather a wildfire burn me to the ground than the hands of a man who does not love me. At least the version of me that grows from the ashes will be more beautiful than the wreckage he will leave of my soul."

- Nikita Gil

Here's the deal. Apple cider vinegar stinks. The smell is horrendous and the taste is no better.... So why am I saying that you need it in your life?

Hair, skin and overall health! Some call this a beauty elixir and I couldn't agree more.

Braggs-Apple-Cider-Vinegar-Health & Beauty benefits

First things first, make sure you are using Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV). You want it to contain the "mother"which contains enzymes and "gut" friendly bacteria. The ACV that I use is Braggs and I highly recommend it. I usually get it on Amazon or at the Vitamin Shoppe.

** Ingesting & topical - I recommend a tablespoon or two added to a glass of water and drinking on an empty stomach. Some just take a shot of ACV but it's so acidic that most people can't handle it! Aside from the taste, I worry that it's too harsh so I always dilute it before drinking it. Same with topically, if you are applying to the face - dilute it!

Health benefits:

 • Diabetes - Studies have shown a correlation with taking ACV daily and lower blood sugar levels.
 • Lowers cholesterol - Pectin helps to regulate blood pressure levels
 • Reduces bloating - the acidity helps with digestion.
 • Kills bad breath - antibacterial properties can help to kill any nasties!
 • Suppresses appetite - drinking a glass before a meal will help you to feel full much faster!
 • Soothe a sore throat - gargle a tablespoon with water every hour or so. The antibacterial properties and acidity helps to destroy bacteria
 • Colds - the potassium thins mucus.
 • Heartburn and acid reflux - acidity helps to level out the acid levels in your stomach
 • Soothes sunburns - natural astringent soothes pain and speeds up healing process

There are many more benefits but these are to name a few!

I try to always drink it first thing in the morning; a glass of water with two tablespoons of ACV. If you can't handle the taste, you can try making a tea and adding honey as well to sweeten a little.

 • Shine - an after-shampoo rinse of a tablespoon or two with cold water once or twice a week.
 • Dandruff - there can be many causes of dandruff. Whether it is yeast, imbalances or deficiencies - using an ACV rinse (half and half dilution), leaving it on for 15 mins and then washing it out, will help with all of these issues!
 • Lice/fleas - Repels those nasties!!
 • Cleansing & Clarifying - removes excess product buildup
 • De-frizz and prevent split ends - smoothes the cuticles

 • Fights acne - antibacterial and anti-fungal helps keep blemishes away
 • Balancing skin - balances pH levels and oil production
 • Exfoliates - contains malic and alpha hydroxy acids that remove dead skin cells
 • Eases psoriasis - used with caution, make sure to dilute it enough so it does not cause irritation
 • Calms irritations and inflammation

For the skin, I love using ACV as a toner. I usually make a batch of half ACV, half distilled water. Apply with a cotton round and proceed with your serums and moisturizers after. It smells very strongly at first but it dissipates after a few minutes.

Do you use Apple Cider vinegar for health or beauty benefits? Any I haven't mentioned above? Let us know in the comments below!

NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede Lipsticks - Review & Swatches:

"Why are you holding back? What are you saving for - for another time? There are no other times. There is only now. Right now."

- George Balanchine

Hey beauties!

The NYX Liquid Suede lipsticks have been a favorite of mine for quite a while now. Recently, a bunch of new shades were released so I picked up a few and wanted to go over each of them with you and let you know which are worth the money and which, in my opinion, are not.

The Liquid Suedes are $6.99 and there are currently 24 shades available.

NYX Liquid Suede liquid lipsticks - review and swatches

I have 7 shades.

Alright, let's talk about each of these separately:

NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede lipstick in Soft Spoken

Soft-Spoken is the first shade I purchased. It's a brown-toned mauvey pinky nude, you know one of those typical shades that have been super popular the past year or so. It's very pigmented, one dip of the applicator is easily enough for your lips and you don't need to layer it for full coverage. This shade is what made me fall in love with the line so you already know, the review for this one? All good. I love it!

The rest of the shades, I ordered from Ulta in one shot.

NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede lipstick in Amethyst

Amethyst, another love. It's a beautiful neon pastel(ish) purple. Very pigmented, applies really smoothly and if you want to layer it for more opaque coverage, it layers very well. It's long wearing and I don't have trouble with it flaking off or anything like that.

NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede lipstick in Jet-Set

Jet-Set is the next shade, a beautiful bright blue. Same as the previous two, it's very pigmented. That liquid suede formula I love! It layers well and lasts for hours without needing to touch up. Of course, as with all liquid lips, if you eat anything oily/greasy, it will break the product down but without eating or drinking much, I can wear it all day easy.

NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede lipstick in Subversive Socialite

Subversive Socialite... The shade I was the most excited about... It's so beautiful! But unfortunately, it's a disappointing review. It's very streaky and unlike the previous three, it does not layer well. It balls up in the corners and inside of your mouth and feels extremely uncomfortable.

NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede lipstick in Foul Mouth

Foul Mouth is another that I was disappointed in. Same with Subversive Socialite, it doesn't layer well. Although it is much more pigmented and opaque, it doesn't necessarily require any additional layering. But, even with one layer I found that this was very uncomfortable. Also... It faded on the inner parts of my lips within one hour and NO eating or drinking... You know those liquid lips that break down in the center just from rubbing your lips together? That's what this does. ARGGG!!!!

NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede lipstick in Stone Fox

Oh, Stone Fox.... She redeems the group. Such a unique, beautiful shade. Very pigmented and back to that beautiful formula of the shades that I enjoy. Creamy, easy to apply, comfortable to wear and fairly long-wearing.

NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede lipstick in Alien

Lastly, Alien. This looks black here but it does have a hint of a blue/purple/green underneath, in person. It's hard to describe. The formula on this one feels better, much more comfortable and it's extremely pigmented but it did wear down within an hour of no eating or drinking. So frustrating!!!

Here are full makeup looks with some of these shades if you were interested in seeing them on:

Subversive Socialite. Layered and I was DYING to get it off while taking photos, it was so uncomfortable.

Alien. This had more of a greenish tone to it while wearing it so I packed on a little black eyeshadow because with this look, I wanted a total black matte lip. But at least you can get an idea on the pigmentation. This is one that wore down in the center very quickly.

So, overall you can see how up and down this review has gone. Some shades are incredible while the others fall very short. I hope this review was helpful if you'd been looking into these!

Sedona Lace Mermaids Eyeshadow Palette - Review & Swatches:

"Thank you for loving me when I still tasted of heartache and war."

 • Nikita Gill

Oh my lawd.... Hello! It has been so very long. Too long. And I've missed you all more than I could possibly say.

On a positive note, being away for so long means I have been trying a crapload of products so... I'll be doing a favorites for sure soon and all kinds of thangs. As always, leave me recommendations on products you'd like reviews or looks on!

Sedona Lace was gracious enough to send me their Mermaids Palette when it was first released and I've been playing with it for months!

Sedona Lace Mermaids Palette

Sedona Lace Mermaids Eyeshadow Palette

The shades are SO beautiful!

Sedona Lace Mermaids Palette swatches 1

Here is the first row:

Nixie is a beautiful peach shade with a slight sheen to it.

Sybil is a gorgeous midtoned pink. It's more on the satin side than a matte.

Beatrice is a satin pink.

Azalea is a matte red. You know I'm all about this shade! It's so rich.

Sedona Lace Mermaids Palette swatches 2

Pearl is a really beautiful pastel blueish almost purple. It's very unique to my collection. Also more on the satin side.

Mishell looks much darker in the pan than it does swatched. A purple satin.

Melody is a beautiful cool toned blue.

Lola is a deep purple that looks more navy on my skin tone.

Sedona Lace Mermaids Palette swatches 3

Madison is a pastel green.

Diana is a matte ocean blue.

Ariel is a matte green.

Zale is a beautiful turquoise. Definitely one of my favorites in the palette!

Sedona Lace Mermaids Palette 4

Meryl is a satin white shade with a beautiful sheen, perfect for highlighting the inner corner or brow bone.

Sedna... Oh how beautiful is this one?! Quite possibly the prettiest in the palette. A turquoise packed with pigment. Matte!

Andrina is a matte rich blue.

Oona is a classic matte black. It takes a bit of building up to get it richly black.

This palette is a stunner. The shades are all consistent throughout. Some can be slightly powdery but that's expected for the pigment.

I love this palette and I find myself reaching for it often. If I'm looking for a specific random shade that isn't in any of my other palettes, I can almost always find it in here. Whether it's a natural look using Nixie (a recent favorite lately - all over the lid?! Gorgeous.) or a dramatic look using the blues and greens, it always comes out beautiful.

The Mermaids Palette is $29.95 and be sure to use the coupon code: themakeupaffair for a few dollars off!

This palette was sent to me by the company but I receive no other compensation and you guys know you will always get my honest opinion on all products.

DIY Face Mask for Beautiful, Glowing Skin:

"Sometimes people think they know you. They know a few facts about you and they piece you together in a way that makes sense to them. And if you don't know yourself very well, you might even believe that they are right. But the truth is, that isn't you. That isn't you at all."

- Leila Sales, "This Song Will Save Your Life"

Hey beauties! Today I have a DIY face mask for you that I've been absolutely loving! It's affordable and makes a genuine difference in your skin. This basic mask uses only TWO ingredients but you can add a bunch of other things to target your skin concerns. I'll throw in additional ingredient options for different skin types.

This post centers around Turmeric Powder.

Turmeric has been used for hundreds of years - widely used in the West as a spice and to add color to Indian dishes; it's a big part of Indian culture and tradition. It has also been used in Chinese medicine. Over the years it has grown rapidly to be known as a fantastic ingredient for skin health as well! Whether you take it internally or like we'll be using today, on the skin as a mask - the benefits are endless!

Turmeric Benefits for the skin:

 • Anti-inflammatory
 • Antioxidant
 • Antibacterial
 • Fantastic exfoliant
 • Treatment for acne, eczema, rosacea, burns, aging, dandruff, hair loss
 • Can be used as a cosmetic & hair dye/stain

Turmeric Benefits for the body:

 • Detoxifies the liver
 • Aids in metabolism
 • Healing agent due to anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties
 • Boosts immunity
 • Moderates insulin levels
 • Helps with menstrual cramps
 • Fights free radicals
 • Aids in reducing joint pain

..... and more!! This is a jewel to have in your home.

Turmeric and Honey face mask:

This is so easy! I use local raw honey - you'll find more benefits when you buy local versus store brands. And I found my turmeric powder at Marshall's for $5.99.

Benefits of Honey for the skin:

 • Antibacterial
 • Full of antioxidants
 • Moisturizing
 • Soothing
DIY Face Mask - easy, affordable - honey and tumeric
DIY Face Mask - easy, affordable - honey and tumeric

I take a spoonful of honey and about half a spoonful of turmeric powder. I'm not precise with it, just eye how much I think I need. The goal is to make a thick paste out of it!

Cleanse and tone your face first. You always want a fresh, clean face before you apply any mask.

Apply with clean fingers. When you first start applying, it may feel a bit stiff but the heat of your fingers will warm up the honey a little bit and make applying much easier.

Leave on for 20 minutes. I like to lay down, watch a movie or youtube for a while. The mask warms up while on the face and may drip a little bit so keep an eye on it if you'll be walking around the house! :)

Turmeric face mask benefits diy

20 to 30 minutes later, it's time to rinse! I'll add a little bit of water to my hands at a time and rub the mask off. This will exfoliate the skin beautifully! Work it into the skin and slowly wash it all off. Once your face is clean, pat dry and follow through with the rest of your skincare! Eye cream, serum, moisturizer!

One thing to keep in mind for my pale beauties, Turmeric is used as a dying agent - it stains! You'll need to really wash it off well to keep your skin from having a slight yellow tinge. If any area on your face does stain slightly (my eyebrows usually do a tiny bit), go in with a cotton ball and a little bit of toner. It'll take that stain right off!

This mask is so easy and quick but it makes your skin look and feel so healthy and beautiful afterwards! I've seen a definite glow since I've added this to my weekly regimen. It also helps a ton with my acne. My hormonal breakouts this month lasted less than half the usual time and I know it's thanks to this mask!

Additional ingredients you can add:

For acne prone skin:

 • Coconut Oil
 • Tea Tree Essential Oil
 • Lavender Essential Oil
 • Milk
 • Lemon Juice

For Oily Skin:

 • Gram Flour
 • Baking Soda
 • Egg Whites

For Dry Skin:

 • Rose Water
 • Milk
 • Avocado or Avocado Oil
 • Almond Oil

For Eczema or Rosacea:

 • Borage Seed Oil
 • Grapeseed Oil
 • Greek Yogurt
 • Vitamin E Oil
 • Ground Nutmeg
 • Raw Manuka Honey

These are only some examples! The combinations for this DIY mask are endless!

If you try this mask, take a picture and tag me in it! #themakeupaffair

Tips & Tricks For Applying False Lashes - Featuring Esqido:

"I would like to say to people, open your eyes and find beauty where you don't normally expect it."

- Jean Paul Gaultier

Hello gorgeous!

One of the most common questions I get asked, both from my readers and students is: "Can you show me how to apply false lashes?"

To anyone starting out in makeup all the way to the more experienced, and even for many makeup artists, applying lashes - whether to yourself or someone else - can be the trickiest and most difficult skill to master. (aside from winged liner but that's for another day) :)

I'll start by saying it takes a lot of practice. Don't expect to read this, go sit in the mirror and pop them on in a minute. You'll need to practice to get your hand-eye coordination down and to get comfortable with applying them. It took me over a year to get to the point where I could put them on within a few seconds and even still some days, it takes me some time to get them on perfectly. Practice makes perfect!

I'll share my tips for applying lashes on yourself and also throw in a few tips for applying to other people.

First comes first, the supplies! You need a good set of lashes, EYELASH adhesive (please do not use anything other than glue meant for your eyes), a tiltable mirror, tweezers (optional) and small manicure scissors.

When you are first learning, I highly recommend you choose lashes with a very thin lash band. The thicker the band, the more difficult they can be to apply. Lashes with a thin band will be easier to mold to the shape of your eye and they also don't lift from the inner corners as much as a thicker band will, as long as you apply it properly!

I'll be using my Esqido lashes in Unforgettable:

Esqido Lashes in Unforgettable

These are mink lashes and a bit more on the pricey side so if you're looking for drugstore, I'd recommend Ardell or Kiss lashes! You can find affordable lashes with very thin, some invisible, bands and they are super easy to work with!

These lashes in Unforgettable have the perfect lash band for beginners. It's not so thin that it's flimsy but not too thick to where it doesn't mold and bend to fit your lids.

Your first step is to gently take the lashes out of the packaging. Set one of the lashes on your eye, as close to your lash line as possible - without applying any glue - to size them and see how much/if you need to trim them. ALWAYS trim the outer corner and never from the inner corner to keep them looking as natural and realistic as possible!

I always have to trim my lashes because I have little baby eyes LOL so I trimmed a fair amount off these with small manicure scissors.

How to trim false lashes

Trim a little bit at a time, you can always take off more but there's no going back if you take off too much!

Once you trimmed the lash, set it back on your eye to make sure it will fit your eye perfectly.

Once your lashes are the right size, I like to bend them between my fingers a little bit to get more of a curve to the band. This will help with application!

How to apply false lashes

Next, you'll want to apply mascara. I prefer to apply it before lashes because piling it on once the falsies are on can wear them down much faster and cut down the amount of times you can reuse them. If you apply the lashes properly, you won't need to blend them into your natural lashes with any additional mascara.

Your next step is to apply lash adhesive. The glue I've been using religiously is Esqido's Companion Long Lasting Bond.

Esqido companion lash glue review

This glue keeps your lashes on through anything but somehow is still easy to remove at the end of the night. I never have issues with my lashes falling out as I have with other lash glues with a long lasting power. How Esqido created a glue with the best of both worlds is beyond me but you won't hear me complaining.

I like to add a tiny bit more glue to both the inner and outer corners to make sure they don't lift throughout the day.

Applying lash glue to lash how to

Let the glue get tacky before applying! This is a must. If you put glue on a lash and immediately try to apply it, it will flop all over the place and you'll end up with a mess.

Let the glue sit for a minute or two, usually most brands will change color slightly so you know when the right time is! Once it's tacky, it will stick right to your lash line but still give enough time to get them placed right where you want them.

When you are applying lashes to a client, DO NOT blow on the glue!!!!! Shake it around little or set it down to get tacky while you throw on a blush or something but never blow on the glue. This will spread bacteria and germs and your client will not be happy with you!

One of my biggest pieces of advice that may seem silly but makes a HUGE difference, look down in the mirror while you are applying. When I was first starting out, I would look almost straight ahead into a mirror and couldn't figure out why I could not get the lash right on my lash line. Looking down into a mirror lets you see right to the base of your lashes and makes it SO much easier to place it right exactly where you want it.How to apply false lashes 3

I prefer to use pointed tweezers but try a few different styles out to see what works best for you.

I personally find it the most easiest on myself, and when applying on clients, to place the lash band in the center of the eye first. Once you have that placed as close to the lash line as possible, I grab the outer corner and get that on, followed by the inner corner.

Once the band is on, when applying lashes on myself - I wouldn't do this with a client - I like to turn my tweezers to the side and squeeze the lash band and my lashes together. I'll do this from the outer corner to the center and then flip the tweezers and do the inner corners as well. This will ensure that your falsies are as close to the lash line as possible and they will blend beautifully with your natural lashes.

This photo is from a different makeup look because I forgot to take photos while applying the Unforgettable style! This is what happens when you have only a few hours a week to work on blog posts LOL:

Squeezing the lashes together not only helps them to look seamless with your natural lashes, blends in perfectly but it also keeps them on even longer!

And your lashes are on! Let the glue dry down and depending on what look I'm doing and if it's needed, mask any glue that is still showing with some liner or eyeshadow.

Esqido lashes in unforgettable how to apply lashes

Here is the final look using the Esqido lashes.

My last bit of advice, please remove your lashes gently. I always put a little bit of makeup remove on a q-tip and rub gently at the base of my lashes to loosen up the band. I cringe when I see people just rip of lashes! Be gentle!

I hope these tips helped you! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask via the comment section below or on any of my social media - links below.

A Cinema Secrets Brush Cleaner Dupe?!

"You know how every once in a while you do something and the little voice inside says, "There. That's it. That's why you're here.".... and you get a warm glow in your heart because you know it's true? Do more of that."

- Jacob Nordby

Hello my beautiful loves!!! Oh, I've missed you!! It feels so good to be back to blogging.

I have a fun post for you today... A possible Cinema Secrets dupe! If you've been living under a rock and haven't heard of Cinema Secrets, it is a professional cosmetics company that makes a brush cleaner that has absolutely blown up in the beauty community this past year. It's known for the bright blue tone to the cleanser, pretty hard to miss!

It's available on their website, Amazon as well as on Sephora's now but it's pretty pricey and almost always sold out now with its growing popularity.

In short, this cleanser is a NO shampoo/no water needed cleanser - although you should still deep clean your makeup brushes once a week - and has been used by makeup artists for many years. You simply dip the tip of your makeup brush into the cleanser and then wipe it down on a paper towel until it wipes clean. It takes a few seconds to do and only a few seconds more for your brush to be completely dry! It's a breeze compared to deep cleansing and having to leave all your brushes laying to dry for a day or two. This is why it's so popular for makeup artists!

Cinema Secrets is quite pricey so I was dying to find one that did the same thing at an affordable price and easier to find.... It has been near impossible to find an exact dupe for this product, especially one that is more affordable. And then in Sally's Beauty one day, I stumbled upon Face Secrets... A cosmetic brush cleaner with that same beautiful blue liquid inside...... Could it be?!?

Cinema Secrets Dupe affordable

It looks the same..... I ran home with it and tried it right away....

Affordable brush cleanser review and demo

Face Secrets cosmetic brush cleanser review

I like to pour the product into a small bowl and dip my brushes in. You only need to dip the tip of the brush in slightly and the product sucks right up to the ferrule of the brush.

Makeup brush cleaner demo

I like to rub the brush in circular motions into the paper towel. You'll see the product come right off!

No shampoo brush cleaner

You usually only have to dip the brush once and rub until clean but sometimes if it's a more bright/stubborn color, I'll do it twice to really make sure the brush is clean..... Spotless!!!!

Fast makeup brush cleaner

This works with eyeshadow, glitter, cream products, gel liners... Whatever product is on that brush, Face Secrets will get it out.

Makeup brush cleaning tutorial

A little bit goes a very long way so you can easily get through cleaning all your brushes with just a little bit of product at a time.

Face Secrets brush cleanser

THIS IS A DUPE! It works exactly the same.

One thing I do want to mention, this smells a little bit more like alcohol than Cinema Secrets does (both have a high alcohol content). It doesn't have as heavy of a fragrance masking that smell, which I suppose could be a plus for some who dislike fragranced products. That alcohol smell dissipates after the brush dries and you no longer smell anything after that.

Despite the alcohol smell, this definitely has the same conditioning products so don't worry that this one will dry out bristles. I haven't had that issue at all and I've used it tons! My brushes still feel brand new.

My only major complaint, this cleanser only comes in this small 4oz bottle... So purchasing the more pricey, larger Cinema Secrets bottle may make more sense for a busy makeup artist who will be washing brushes much more often than the regular makeup lover.

This product is phenomenal. It is $5.99 for a 4oz bottle, I'm halfway through and it has lasted me months! If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to Cinema Secrets brush cleanser, I HIGHLY recommend you try Face Secrets! Run to Sally's right now!!!

You can also purchase Face Secrets on Amazon.

I hope you enjoyed this post and found it helpful!

Taking a break:

Hello loves,

If you don't follow my social media, I've decided to take a slight break from blogging for a little while. My grandfather had a heart attack and unfortunately, things have gone downhill the past few days. There are a lot of questions that need answering and we don't know whether he'll come out of this or not to be totally honest. I'd just like to spend as much time with family as possible as well as trying my best to keep my head on straight enough to function at work. I will be back as soon as possible, but I'm not quite sure what direction this will go. Literally every day is different with new worries and struggles and I'm sure you all know how nerve-racking situations like this are.

I just wanted to come on here quickly to update and let you all know what's going on. I have been working on a bunch of things but it's hard to focus enough right now to finish any one of them. Bear with me, I know I've been saying this so much lately. There's a lot on my plate and this is just tipping me off the edge right now.

I wanted to thank everyone that has sent well wishes and to everyone who has said a prayer or two for my grampa. It's so appreciated. I can't thank everyone who supports me enough. I have the most amazing "followers" and friends thanks to this blog and I just love and appreciate you all so much. Before I start crying, I'll end this here :)

Thank you for your love, patience and prayers.

Sephora VIB Rouge Sale & Ulta Haul:

"It's amazing how much you can learn if your intentions are truly earnest."

- Chuck Berry

Hello beauties!! Do you guys love seeing hauls as much as I do? Like we need any more shopping ideas, right? I did a little bit of damage for the Sephora VIB Rouge 20% off sale, not too bad... Not nearly as bad as I had wanted to. And also figured I'd throw in a little haul from Ulta as well.

I've been trying to behave myself with shopping lately, despite all the makeup and skincare I've been dying to pick up. House hunting is on my mind and that is definitely taking priority (as it should) with any extra funds I have. But... Of course I couldn't go totally without :)

We'll start with the Sephora haul!

Sephora VIB Sale Haul 2016

I've already played with all of these so I'll give little mini reviews for some, but if you want an in depth review for anything mentioned, let me know!

Elizabeth & James Nirvana White Sephora Haul

I picked up a roller ball of the Elizabeth and James Nirvana White... I wanted the Black scent as well but I like this one a tiny bit better. I wanted to make sure I really loved it before I bought a large version. I enjoy this scent although it ends up smelling like a D&G perfume on me, it doesn't last as long as my other perfumes so I'm a little disappointed. But I do love the scent. I want to try the dry shampoos as well!

Estee Lauder Double Wear 1C1 Cool Bone Sephora Haul

I finished a bottle of Estee Lauder Double wear so I had to pick up another! I wear 1C1 Cool Bone when I'm at my normal shade, I'd go a step up in the summer. I've mentioned this foundation in many previous posts, it's a holy grail for me.

Bobbi Brown Toast eyeshadow review

Bobbi Brown's eyeshadow in Toast.

Bobbi Brown Toast eyeshadow swatches

This is a perfect transition shade. If you own and love Makeup Geek's Peach Smoothie, this shade is pretty unnecessary.. It's a tiny bit darker but very similar.... But I love it. It's so creamy and pigmented, it blends like a DREAM.

Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow Camel review

The other Bobbi Brown eyeshadow I've been absolutely dying to own! Camel.

Bobbi Brown Camel eyeshadow swatches

It's super pigmented and a gorgeous shade for the crease. I've been using this in almost every makeup look lately.

Makeup Forever MUFE Artist eyeshadows M844 and M846

I picked up two Makeup Forever eyeshadows.... that are pretty darn similar to each other. The swatches online made them look different! You definitely don't need both.

Makeup Forever Eyeshadows M844 & M846 Swatches

M846 on the right and M844 on the right. You can see when they are blended out, you really can't tell the difference. They are matte, stunning shades and super pigmented. I love the MUFE shadow formulas!

Sephora Lip Cream Stain Blackberry Sorbet swatch review

If you've followed my blog for any length of time, you know that Sephora's Lip Cream's are some of my favorite liquid lipsticks so I just had to get the shade Blackberry Sorbet next.

Sephora Blackberry Sorbet lip stain

Here it is on the lips, also the Bobbi Brown shadows are on my lid and those two MUFE shadows are on my lower lashline!

Kat Von D Lolita Lip Duo Sephora Haul

Lastly, I got the Kat Von D Lolita Lip Duo.

Kat Von D Liquid lipsticks Lolita and Lolita 2 swatches

In this duo you get Lolita, a pre-existing shade and Lolita 2.

Sephora Lolita Lip Duo swatches and old Lolita comparison

If you aren't familiar with the Lolita liquid lipstick, the original formula sold out and when it was back in stock, many people complained that the shade was totally different. Eventually Kat Von D Beauty said it was a bad batch and that the old formula would be released later on. So I purchased this duo hoping that the original shade would be in here. Unfortunately, this is also the bad batch. Some people liked it but it is a very odd shade on my skin tone so I'm not a huge fan. I also dislike the Lolita 2 shade on my skin tone as well so I may give this to a friend :(

Next is Ulta!

Ulta Haul

I picked up a two pack of the Real Technique sponges. I originally wasn't a fan of these but I feel like the newer ones are much more like Beauty Blenders so I'm loving them now!

I also picked up another Anastasia Brow Wiz in the shade Soft Brown.

Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel Full Strength Ulta Haul

The Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel, this is the full strength version. I think I may be allergic to this! I need to use it a few more times to find out for sure.

NYX Angel Veil Primer

NYX's Angel Veil Primer! I've been wanting to try this for so long!

NYX Angel Viel Primer swatches ulta haul

I am LOVING this primer!!!! More than any of my high end face primers. It holds my oils and keeps my makeup looking nice all day long.

Benefit Gimmie Brow ulta haul

Lastly, I picked up Benefit's Gimme Brow. I've had this in the darker shade but I needed the light/medium one now that my hair is red.

Benefit Gimmie Brow Light:Medium review

This is a brow gel with fibers that help to fill in any sparse areas. I absolutely love this! Especially for lazy days when I don't want to take the time to fill in my brows, you comb this through super quick and it helps to keep your brows looking nice and filled in.

So that's it! I'm pretty happy with my recent purchases although of course there's a lot more I've got my eye on! Did you pick anything up from the Sephora sales? Let us know what you got in the comments below!

Also, if you'd like an in depth review on anything, let me know! xoxo.

Affordable Concealer Palette! Featuring Sedona Lace:

"Do not let anyone drag you down with their insecurities. You know your truth and intentions. Whether others know it or not isn't your battle."

- Alex Elle

Hello loves!

You all know my love for Sedona Lace. How many times can I mention it? Whether you are a beginner when it comes to makeup or an experienced MUA, there is always something Sedona Lace has to offer at an affordable price.

Building your makeup kit, especially when you are first starting out, can be intimidating, stressful and EXPENSIVE! It's hard to know what to purchase, especially when you'll be catering to a wide variety of skin tones.

I recommend investing in palettes! Foundations, concealers, blush, shadows, lips, etc. These will give you a wide variety of choices that will typically work for any of your clients. These also save you a bit of space in your kit versus having a ton of compacts you'll have to dig through.

I love keeping concealer palettes in my kit. They typically contain a ton of different shades and tones and in the case of this one we'll be talking about today, also different corrective shades too!

Sedona Lace has a few concealer palettes: a 10, 12, 15 and 20 color! Today we'll be reviewing the 15 color palette.

Sedona Lace Concealer review

It's super small and perfect for traveling! Hard to believe there are 15 concealers in here.

Sedona Lace 15 Color Concealer Palette review and swatches

These are all creams. You get a highlight as well as a green and lilac shade - these are corrective concealers. Green will counteract redness and the lilac shade will counteract yellow/sallowness in the skin!

Along with those shades you get concealers of all different shades and undertones.

Let's get into the swatches!

Sedona Lace Concealer Swatches 1

This is the top row of the palette!

Sedona Lace Concealer Swatches 2

Second row.

Sedona Lace Concealer Swatches 3

And the third row.

I was blown away at how creamy and pigmented these were. The lightest touch into these and they applied beautifully and blended out with ease. There is no chalkiness or heaviness to them. Although they are creams, they feel light on the skin!

I get so many questions comparing SL to Coastal Scents or BH Cosmetics.

Coastal Scents and Sedona Lace have the exact same 15 color concealer palette.... But are they really identical?

Sedona Lace compared to Coastal Scents review

On the left is the Coastal Scents and on the right is Sedona Lace.

Coastal Scents Concealer Palette

Here is the Coastal Scents palette up close. The shades are a bit muddy looking because I've used it on many clients! But can you see how crusty and gross these look? I'm sure you're thinking they are just dried up, it happens with creams... But these were dry and chalky from DAY 1!

Coastal Scents Concealer Palette swatches

The consistency of these are nothing compared to the Sedona Lace palette. They are rough feeling, chalky, nowhere near as pigmented and not creamy or blendable at all.

So don't let looks fool you. They may look exactly the same but the quality is not even close to similar.

Because of this Coastal Scents palette, my expectations weren't very high. I was worried when I received this palette that I wouldn't be able to use it in my kit but I was floored at how creamy and pigmented these are! Honestly, I haven't even put it in my kit... I've been using it for myself! :)

This isn't only for makeup artists! You can absolutely keep this for personal use. You can even use the darker shades to bronze/contour!

The Sedona Lace 15 Color Camouflage Concealer Palette is $15.95!

Use the code ' themakeupaffair ' for $4 off your purchase! Also check their social media for deals, they have 20% off the site all the time!

Life Update:

"Wake up early tomorrow. Eat a good breakfast. Do your hair and makeup and put on a kick-ass outfit. Buy your cup of coffee and enjoy every sip of it. Go to work, make that money, and learn something new in the process. Nourish. Grow. Inspire. Self-destruction is not an option. And let every choice you make be a brick in the foundation of rebuilding yourself."

Hello my loves!

Blogging is a lot of work. More than the average person would think. This site is my baby.. My love child after going to school for Esthetics...

Going back to school opened a whole new world to me and this blog was a way for me to give back. To share my knowledge and love for this industry.....

Hmmm, this is sort of starting to sound like I'm shutting it down, doesn't it? Well, no worries. I'm not going anywhere! But I do feel that I need to explain to you why I haven't been even close to consistent with my posts.

As many of you know, I accepted a position at the beauty school I went to as an Esthetics Educator. I've always taught, in one way or another. Whether it was children at schools and daycares or via blogging, teaching has always been a passion of mine. After I gradated from TSPA, I was pretty lost as to where I wanted to take things. The blog was one venue but you don't make nearly enough blogging until you put in quite a few years of work.. It's not as easy as YouTube is to "blow up" and catch the attention of companies.

Maybe blogging is a dying industry because of YT but I love it and I chose to stick with it. But along with that, I needed a big girl job! I was dying to find something that could genuinely be a career that I loved and joining the TSPA Buffalo family has been a godsend.

I've been there since July and it has already helped me to grow so much. It tests my boundaries (and patience lol), I learn so much every single day and I feel so good knowing that I can make a difference in someone's life. I teach women of so many different ages and walks of life. I try my best to help prepare them for a new career/life in this industry, give them as much knowledge as I possibly can and I'm so blessed to be able to do that and on top of that, they all teach me so much too! It's so incredibly rewarding in many ways.

For the first time in my life, I can genuinely say that I love my job and I can see this as a lifetime career. Along with teaching Esthetics, I will also be teaching stand-alone makeup and eyelash extension classes. These are brand new to the school so I've been working more than my typical schedule to get these up and running.

Which brings me to why my posts have been so few and far between... Life just gets in the way. I know I don't need to explain myself to some of you but I do worry that I will lose some followers because of this..... But, momma's gotta eat. It's not easy working full time and fitting in visiting with family, friends and spending time with my boyfriend let alone finding nonexistent time to get blog posts done. I admit, there are some days when I do have the time but on those rare moments when I can just sit, relax and have a clean, bare face... I treasure those.

I don't want to stop blogging. And I'm sure some of you would come and find me if I were to lol but I do hope that you bear with me during this transition phase of my life. It's a good one, I promise. I just need to get better with managing my time. I apologize and I miss you all. I do have a ton of things in the works and planned out, it's just getting it done... That is the hard part :)

And on that note,

MUD Makeup Classes in Buffalo, NY

To any licensed Cosmetologists or Estheticians, if you live in/near the Buffalo, NY area.... My first MUD Makeup class starts in January! It's an 8 week course with an eyelash extension class built in! Contact me via any social media if you are interested! Must be licensed to take this course <3

Please contact me if you have any questions, about these stand-alone classes or any other courses TSPA Buffalo has to offer (hair, skin & nails)!

Thank you to my supporters. On those hard days when I want to give up, you are the backbone that I need. And thank you to all who actually read all this rambling.

I appreciate your patience throughout all of this. xoxo.
